SLAC Job Postings Position Overview SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is seeking an Associate Staff Scientist to join the Material Science group within the Science, Research and Development (SRD) Division at the Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS).

The primary research focus of this group is ultrafast electronic and structural dynamics in condensed‑matter systems using Megaelectronvolt electron scattering experiments (MeV‑UED) and x‑ray diffraction and spectroscopy at LCLS.

The successful candidate will support user science and beamline operations at the LCLS instruments, develop new science capabilities and instrumentation, and lead a self‑directed scientific research portfolio at LCLS.

Specific Responsibilities

Develop the ultrafast science program at the LCLS MeV‑UED facility.

Support user operations on MeV‑UED, XPP and XCS.

Create and refine techniques and procedures to advance the ultrafast program at LCLS.

Support the expansion of LCLS capabilities.

Collaborate with SRD scientists and other LCLS divisions.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. in physics, chemistry, applied physics, or related field.

0–2 years of experience in ultrafast science, structure dynamics, or electron/x‑ray diffraction.

Strong communication and writing skills.

Demonstrated record of scientific productivity via publications.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.

Compensation The expected pay range is $118,000 – $175,000 per annum.
