Assistant Professor in Computer Science for Cybersecurity The Department of Computer Science within the College of Science and Engineering at the University of North Carolina Wilmington invites applications for a nine-month tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Computer Science to begin August 10, 2026. This position focuses on the technical foundations of cybersecurity, or related areas while maintaining an active research program and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students. Online teaching may be required for the position. There may be a need for online courses in the Graduate Certificate in Maritime Transportation Cybersecurity. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Ph.D. or equivalent research-focused doctoral degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Cybersecurity, or closely related area with at least 18 hours of graduate coursework closely related to the discipline required to be eligible for employment. ABD candidates with a Ph.D. conferred by August 1, 2026, can anticipate an initial appointment as an Assistant Professor. Selected candidates with a Ph.D. nearly completed (ABD, not conferred by August 1, 2026) can anticipate an initial appointment as Lecturer at a reduced salary for a one-year fixed-term appointment. Degree verification must be provided before the end of the one-year fixed-term appointment ending May 10, 2027, and the candidate will be appointed to the rank of assistant professor with commensurate compensation beginning July 1 of the following academic year. We are particularly interested in scholars whose research work and teaching emphasizes the theoretical, systems, or applied technical aspects of cybersecurity, including but not limited to: Transportation and maritime security Cyber-physical systems Embedded and IoT security Industrial Control Systems Secure software engineering Network and systems security AI and machine learning for cybersecurity Cloud and edge security Experience teaching at the undergraduate level is preferred. The Department of Computer Science offers the following degree programs: a B.S. in Computer Science, a B.S. in Intelligent Systems Engineering, a B.S. in Software Engineering an interdisciplinary B.S. in Cybersecurity, an interdisciplinary B.A. in Digital Arts, an interdisciplinary B.S in Information Technology, an interdisciplinary M.S. in Computer Science and Information Systems, an interdisciplinary M.S. in Data Science. undergraduate minors in Game Engineering, Digital Arts, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, and Computer Science College/School Information

The College of Science and Engineering offers a variety of programs leading to Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees, as well as Doctor of Philosophy degrees in applied coastal and ocean sciences; pharmaceutical chemistry; integrative, comparative, and marine biology; and psychology degrees. The college also offers combined bachelor’s/master’s degree programs in information technology/computer science and information systems, computer science/computer science and information systems, and B.S. in mathematics/M.S. in mathematics. To implement its academic programs, the college provides instruction and research opportunities in the natural and behavioral sciences, information technology, data science, computer science, mathematics, pre-engineering, and engineering. The eight academic departments in the college provide courses of study in each of these areas, in addition to interdepartmental programs in information technology, cybersecurity, and digital arts. A 2+2 in engineering; and 3+2 programs in computer science and electrical or computer engineering; and physics and electrical engineering, are also offered in the college. Post-baccalaureate certificate programs in environmental studies, applied statistics, and geographic information science are also available. University Information
