Hourly rate: $15 per hour This is a Seasonal/Temporary Part-time position and is not eligible for employer paid benefits. Job Summary Performs various tasks supporting a variety of Parks and Recreation Department activities, including but not limited to: setting up for program activities; leading, monitoring and/or participating in recreational activities and programs; assisting with program implementation in accordance with established rules, regulations, policies and procedures; assisting with facility and equipment maintenance; and providing excellent customer service and visitor assistance. Essential Duties (Any one position may not include all of the tasks listed, nor do the examples necessarily include all of the tasks performed.) May assist the Athletics Program Manager, Recreation Centers Program Manager, and/or Recreation Program Assistants with athletic programs, summer camps, and other related duties. May assist the Special Events Program Manager with large-scale signature events and smaller events, performing tasks such as gathering event supplies, table, tent and chair set-up/break down, staging, banners and signs, trash removal, parking and restroom monitor. May assist park maintenance team from time-to-time with semi-skilled tasks such as general maintenance of athletic facilities, park amenities, or other duties as requested. Provides customer service and visitor assistance, working with parents or other family members, participants, community members, and service providers in a variety of program settings. Provides quality and timely customer service to assist with program registration, as needed. Performs other related duties as required. Qualifications Applicants must be at least 16 years of age and pass a criminal background check and drug screening; the possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license is preferred. Ideal candidates will have flexible availability, including day, evening, and weekend hours. Enthusiasm and commitment in providing quality programming and excellent customer service. Ability to work well with children, parents and community members. Ability to organize, lead, and promote interest in recreational activities such as arts, crafts, sports, games, and hobbies. Excellent organizational and prioritization skills. Ability to express ideas effectively and communicate effectively in verbal and written forms. Ability to deal tactfully with, and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with, community members, employees, supervisors, and participants. Reporting Relationship Under general supervision by Program Managers and Recreation Program Assistants. Working Conditions: Requirements and Demands The position requires a flexible schedule to provide program participant customer service as needed. May include weekend, evening, and holiday work as assigned. Both office and outdoor working conditions may be required. Physical Requirements Standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, repetitive motions, and light-to-heavy physical activity in a variety of weather conditions and includes some personal safety hazards. Should be able to lift and move heavy objects, up to 50 lbs., with proper technique. Personal computer, A/V equipment, printer, calculator, copy machine, telephone equipment, other office equipment, athletic field equipment, and other hand tools.
