What Is The Position
The mission of the Virtual American Sign Language (ASL) Teacher is to provide an outstanding, personalized, and effective learning experience for students by incorporating a rigorous curriculum with a data-driven, student-centered instructional model. A Virtual Teacher serves in online, virtual environments delivering both live and asynchronous instruction, guiding the learning process, providing feedback, and communicating with parents and local school representatives as needed.
This role supports multiple virtual, live instruction offerings within Edmentum\'s Instructional Services, with learning built on award-winning digital curricula aligned to state standards. Teachers may facilitate a combination of the following learning environments.
- Flexible Virtual Learning – Edmentum course assigned via the local school; work completed largely on the student’s own time. Grading, messaging, and live help are provided by the Edmentum Virtual Teacher.
- Enhanced Virtual Learning – Sessions scheduled within the school day; teachers lead sessions daily, meeting with students to teach on a given topic.
- Targeted Skills Instruction – Small group tutoring based on diagnostic results; tailored lessons for a given subject.
- Special Education – Instruction based on individual students\' IEPs.
- Additional Responsibilities – Standalone grading services and class coverage.
Success will be measured by valid and reliable student assessment data, including passing and completion rates, and student satisfaction.
Note: This is a full-time, remote position with flexible scheduling options, usually 10 months following the academic year. Some summer and/or weekend work may be required based on business needs. Requires on-camera presentation and engagement with students. Equipment is provided.
What You Will Do
Instruction
- Maintain a workload that supports fluctuating business needs (typically 3–5 hours per day of live instruction with the enrollment load corresponding to assigned duties).
- Provide rich and engaging synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences.
- Personalize learning for all students and differentiate instruction by level of mastery.
- Augment course content using applicable policies and procedures with guidance from managers and quality coaches.
- Maintain grade book, ensure academic integrity, make placement and promotion decisions, and alert administrators to concerns.
- Provide timely feedback, prepare students for high-stakes tests, and respond to student messages promptly.
- Create learning resources and maintain ongoing communication with students and parents/guardians.
- Support curricular and instructional issues, and troubleshoot basic virtual classroom challenges.
Leader-Assigned Duties
- Mentor Assignment – Onboard new hires, coordinate with teams, and provide regular communication and professional development as mentors.
- Content Support – Identify content needs, coordinate professional development, and develop training materials.
- Certified Student and Teacher Support – Requires completion of a certification track before duties are assigned.
- Success Coaching – Use student-centered strategies to support progress; conduct video conferences and calls to motivate students.
- Instructional Coaching – Provide district or school coaching and professional development; create training materials and onboarding.
How You Will Do It
- Drive for results; seek process improvements and use diverse teaching techniques.
- Assess understanding through virtual assignments, quizzes, and exams.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to foster a positive virtual learning environment.
- Maintain confidentiality and follow the chain of command when handling sensitive information.
Required Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor\'s degree in Education or related field
- Active state teaching license with a Global Languages: American Sign Language (ASL) endorsement
- Three or more years of classroom teaching experience with at least one year of online teaching experience
- Ability to clear required background check

- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to maintain certification hours and fluency in K–12 systems and curriculum

Working Environment
