Overview
Lab Administration; Full Time, AM Shift (0330-1400 Fri-Mon).

This role focuses on phlebotomy and specimen collection, point-of-care testing, and supporting the Lead Phlebotomist with technical and administrative tasks in the laboratory.

Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture/capillary puncture for blood specimen collection across all age groups (neonate to geriatric) and ensure patient confidence through professional technique.
- Perform waived and moderate complexity point-of-care testing; document instrument and reagent QC and perform preventative maintenance as required.
- Collect NP washings/swabs, throat cultures, and other specimen types as trained and certified; follow policies for laboratory operations and Laboratory Information System.
- Assist in specimen procurement and processing services; handle patient reception, test accessioning, telephone communications, and distribution of reports; manage callback queue for delivery of results.
- Participate in the development of training curricula, CE activities, QA projects; train and orient new employees.
- Maintain proficiency testing records and ensure testing of proficiency samples mirrors patient specimen procedures.
- Maintain workflow and collaboration to ensure uninterrupted patient care and continuous operation of the section; support shift leadership as charge tech as needed.
- Stay current with policy changes and participate in continuing education as scheduling allows.
- Adhere to safety and compliance standards (CLIA, CAP, JCAHO, FDA, DHEC, OSHA) and ensure proper specimen handling and reporting.
Qualifications
- Minimum Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Minimum Years of Experience: 1 Year of Experience
- Substitutable Education & Experience (Optional): 1 Year of Experience may be substituted for completion of a formal Phlebotomy/Medical Assistant program or Lexington Medical Center Phlebotomy Apprenticeship

Essential Functions
- Maintain high skill level in venipuncture/capillary collection and meet productivity and specimen quality standards.
- Perform procurement for diverse populations; document quality control and maintenance; support NP washings/swabs and other specimen collections as trained.
- Handle patient reception, test accessioning, and report distribution; coordinate with ordering physicians.
- Train and supervise new staff; monitor policies and procedures; participate in ongoing education.
