The Department of Kinesiology has 30 full‑time faculty members and offers B.S., M.S., M.S.A.T., and Ph.D. programs in the academic areas of athletic training, sport management, exercise science, and health and physical education. Department faculty members are nationally and internationally recognized for their scholarly accomplishments, teaching excellence, and service to their professional disciplines. The Mary Frances Early College of Education (MFE COE) is one of the nation’s largest colleges of education, consistently ranks in the top ten national Elementary Education and Curriculum and Instruction programs, and supports interdisciplinary research collaborations and partnerships. The college is named for UGA’s first African American graduate and is active in partnerships with local communities and schools to provide professional development and experiential learning opportunities. The Department of Kinesiology at the University of Georgia invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor in the area of Exercise Physiology to begin on August 1, 2026. We are seeking the highest quality scholar in the area of Exercise Physiology with a research agenda focused on the physiological implications of physical activity/inactivity, aging, chronic disease, and/or disability. The ideal candidate’s research program will build upon current strengths within the department along with centers and initiatives across the university, including the Obesity Research Initiative, the Cognitive Aging Research and Education (CARE) Center, the Complex Carbohydrate Research Center, Precision One Health, Owens Institute for Behavioral Research, and the new College of Medicine. Responsibilities: Establish an independent, nationally recognized research program based on impactful publications in high-quality peer-reviewed journals Pursue external funding from federal agencies, foundations, or other relevant sources to support a sustained research program Provide effective undergraduate and graduate teaching in Exercise Science Provide effective student mentoring, including in support of theses and dissertations Provide service activities that benefit the Kinesiology department, the University, the profession, and the public at large This position is contingent on the continued availability of funding. Additional Requirements: Evidence of strong potential to secure external funding Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification: At least 2 years of either postdoctoral research or academic faculty experience Evidence of university teaching and mentoring Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies: Demonstrated ability to publish in high-quality scientific journals History of obtaining funding to support research Preference will be given to candidates with a focus on physical activity/inactivity in the context of cardiometabolic, neurovascular, and/or cerebrovascular health.
