Description of Work Assist the Dean in the oversight of various duties, including but not limited to advancing research missions, supporting undergraduate and graduate degree programs, faculty evaluation, faculty development, facilitating external support for undergraduate and graduate programs, curriculum development, course schedule planning, faculty/staff hiring and supervision, budget development, fiscal monitoring, and other related administrative activities with and for the assigned program areas. Reports directly to the Dean and may assume some duties of the Dean in their absence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
General
The Associate Dean for Undergraduate Curriculum and Student Affairs provides academic leadership for curriculum and program development and evaluation for undergraduate programs. Administrative oversight includes the College's Advising Center, Office of Student Success and Assessment, and Office of Student Compliance. Works with the Dean, Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies, academic unit heads, and central offices to support the College’s strategic plan and performance metrics. The Director of the CHHS Advising Center, Director of Student Success and Assessment, Student Compliance Specialists and Administrative Support Associate report to the Associate Dean. Other duties may be assigned by the Dean.
Curriculum
Collaborates on priorities for undergraduate program planning, development, approval, implementation, and evaluation, including expanding high-impact educational practices. Serves as ex-officio member to the College Curriculum Committee.
College Planning and Evaluation
Monitors undergraduate enrollments and trends; updates to the enrollment management plan. Participates in accreditation compliance related to CHHS and University accreditation, as well as discipline-specific processes. Contributes to the College Strategic Plan and undergraduate student performance metrics, and distributes outcome data to units and governance groups.
College Operations
Oversees the CHHS Advising Center and Office of Student Success and Assessment, including budgets, recruitment processes, staff development, and procedures related to advising. Manages undergraduate student recruitment/admission processes, progression and graduation data, and policy interpretation. Handles undergraduate student academic appeals and grievances, oversees space planning, course scheduling, and catalog updates. Represents the College to University units on policies governing admission, progression, assessment, retention and graduation. Oversees space assignments and coordinates with Academic Affairs, Facilities Management and vendors for space improvements.
Faculty and Staff
Assists with recruitment and interviewing of administrators, faculty and adjunct faculty as requested. Contributes to professional development, onboarding, and updates to the College's RPT Handbook.
Other
May serve ex officio on College committees related to curriculum and undergraduate affairs. Acts as liaison to University units responsible for accreditation, assessment, distance education, summer programs, course scheduling, and undergraduate admission/progression/graduation. Demonstrates integrity, supervision capability, and willingness to assume other duties as delegated by the Dean.
Minimum Experience / Education UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.
Preferred Education, Skills and Experience The Senior Associate Dean must meet the criteria for Faculty appointment at Associate Professor or Professor rank (tenured or clinical track) and must have a minimum of five years College level administrative experience.
