Kuiper Intelligence Data Services (KIDS) team is seeking a Software Development Engineer who will design and build innovative self-service applications and automation tools for DataHive, our enterprise-grade data platform for Kuiper Production Operations and beyond. In this role, you\'ll be responsible for developing user-facing applications that enable data producers and consumers across the organization to seamlessly interact with our centralized data infrastructure. You\'ll build web portals, data catalogs, automation frameworks, and integrations that make data discovery, classification, quality monitoring, and consumption intuitive and efficient.
Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain full-stack web applications and portals that serve as the primary user interface for DataHive, our centralized data platform
Build self-service tools and automation frameworks that enable data producers to tag datasets with security classifications, export controls, and metadata
Develop interactive data catalog and data dictionary features with advanced search, filtering, and discovery capabilities
Architect and implement APIs and backend services to support data vending, bring-your-own-table functionality, and third-party integrations
Integrate GenAI capabilities including chatbots and AI-powered assistants, and build user interfaces for ML model access
Collaborate with data engineers to design services that bridge user applications with underlying data infrastructure
Implement authentication, authorization, and audit logging to ensure secure access and compliance with export control requirements
A day in the life As a Software Development Engineer, you\'ll design and build features that empower Kuiper teams to leverage data effectively. Your day might include architecting a new data catalog search capability, implementing backend APIs that integrate with AWS services, or developing frontend components for data quality dashboards. You\'ll collaborate with cross-functional partners to gather requirements, participate in sprint planning, technical design reviews, and conduct code reviews. You\'ll also work on integrating GenAI capabilities, troubleshooting production issues, and mentoring teammates on best practices for building scalable, user-friendly applications.
About the team Kuiper Intelligence Data Services (KIDS) team owns DataHive, a centralized data and analytics infrastructure that serves as the single source of truth, enabling teams to develop dashboards and insights that drive Kuiper\'s satellite production operations. The platform enforces stringent data governance with tagging and access controls, enhancing data discoverability and security. We\'re building the next generation of self-service capabilities including data catalogs, quality monitoring, automated tagging, GenAI-powered tools, and custom data integrations that make data accessible and actionable for all Kuiper teams.
3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
Experience programming with at least one software programming language
Experience in one or more relevant front-end frameworks such as React, Angular, etc.
Experience working with REST API based services
3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
Bachelor\'s degree in computer science or equivalent
Experience with data infrastructures: relational analytic DBMS, Elastic-Search, and Big Data EMR/EC2/Glue/Lambda, or experience in software development

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $129,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
