Responsibilities We are seeking a

Fair Housing Advocate

to work with the Fair Housing Manager to provide direct advocacy assistance to tenants and homeowners reporting housing discrimination and tenant rights violations. Advocacy activities include helping tenants understand and enforce their rights with their housing providers and filing civil rights complaints. This position will also engage in fair housing education and outreach activities and promoting inclusive, accessible, and affordable housing development through zoning policy advocacy at the municipal level. Education, outreach and zoning advocacy activities include forming and working with local community groups and tenant organizations.

Responsibilities include

Education and Outreach

Conduct outreach to local community organizations, social service organizations, and interested residents on fair housing, tenant rights, and housing equity through land use reform.

Establish key contacts and working relationships with municipal officials and organizations engaging in fair housing and equitable zoning activities.

Develop outreach materials and resources.

Housing Equity Advocacy

Develop community led advocacy platforms addressing zoning reform and increasing affordable and accessible housing.

Attend and advocate at local zoning and planning board meetings.

Provide support to tenant organizations

Complaint Work

Engage in direct advocacy to assist clients reporting housing discrimination and tenant rights violations

Work with the Fair Housing Manager to provide technical assistance and help clients file housing discrimination complaints

Refer tenants and homebuyers to fair housing and tenant rights enforcement organizations

Trainings

Assist with development of trainings that promote fair housing, housing rights, and zoning reform.

Administer trainings to tenants, homeowners, housing providers, and social service providers.

Be familiar with CTI's other Fair Housing activities and trainings.

Reporting

Assist with collecting qualitative and quantitative data on program activities.

Assist with reporting on program activities to grant funders

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

College preferred; High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Bilingual skills (English/Spanish or English/Khmer) a plus.

2-3 years of experience with community organizing/outreach/advocacy work.

Excellent customer service, organizational, oral and written communication skills.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.

Proficient computer skills required in basic computer software and data collection systems.
