POSITION SUMMARY The ideal candidate will be an experienced and respected safety professional with the ability to build upon our positive safety culture and move our organization to the next level, by providing our internal and external customers with the active expertise and visible leadership consistent with our company values. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Evaluates, updates, and develops current safety programs, policies, procedures, and work practices. Regularly communicates program needs and enhancements to company executive leadership. Develops site specific safety plans as required/needed. Works directly with human resources to assist with on boarding process, new employee orientation, physicals, PPE assignment, training, etc. Works with insurance agency/captive representatives to develop safety, risk control and claims management strategies. Assures compliance with MIOSHA, MDOT, FMCA, EPA/EGLE regulations, and client/owner requirements. Manages online and in-house safety databases (ISNetworld, Avetta, Veriforce/Verisource & MEA OQ Training, NCMS, FMCSA, Clearinghouse, Common Ground Alliance, Contractor Compliance, Credential Check, NCMS, etc.). Purchases, tracks, distributes, and maintains database for PPE, first aid kits, fire extinguishers, gas meters and safety bags. Administers respiratory protection program, including written documentation, fitness exams, fit testing, and medical surveillance. Regularly performs jobsite safety visits throughout the state, ensuring, documenting, and communicating that all projects meet or exceed company safety policies/procedures and regulatory requirements. Immediately addresses and assures correction or improvement of conditions as needed. Responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and documenting all company safety training and assures maintenance of all required HAZMAT, Confined Space Rescue, etc. certifications. Assists with annual permitting, including but not limited to UCR, hazmat, IFTA, etc. Responds to all safety related incidents. Stabilizes, investigates, and provides detailed documented follow up of incidents. Coordinates prompt insurance and regulatory reporting requirements as needed. Participates in ongoing claims management and claims reviews with insurance agency/carrier. Responds and effectively addresses all safety inquiries and audits as requested by clients. Responsible for maintaining drug testing pool, compliance, and reporting. Works with division managers to ensure that safe work practices and compliance is achieved and maintained at all facilities and jobsites. Assist with the implementation and handling of dash cameras in company vehicles. Regularly updates Director (every 3 weeks) to review project status, upcoming training, etc. Creates bi-weekly safety toolbox talk topics for social media with marketing department Assists with on-boarding & termination of territory employees; safety and introduction. Communicates with vendors and verifies pricing on invoices from vendors. Keeps record of all daily activities and material/equipment quantities to manage job costing, project completion and overall project management. Actively participates and networks in industry safety committees, conferences, and associations. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Minimum of two years (preferred 5-10) experience in the safety field. Construction safety experience preferred. OSHA 30-Hour Construction course completion. Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety or closely related field strongly preferred. Professional certification(s) such as CSP, CHST, ARM, preferred and may be required within two years. Deep working knowledge of MIOSHA, DOT, and EPA/EGLE standards Basic Microsoft Office knowledge (Excel, Outlook, Teams) Travel is required to company facilities and jobsites within Michigan. Some overnight travel may be required. Ability to work closely with established team members. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities. Follow instructions given both orally and in writing. Ability to work independently, with accuracy and in accordance with company safety and quality standards. Ability to effectively communicate with other employees for the purpose of hazard recognition, problem solving, or other purposes. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk, use hands to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms and requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies.
