Summary of Position Are you driven by a commitment to support residents during some of their most vulnerable moments? We are seeking an Emergency Transfer & Resident Services Coordinator who will work across a region of affordable housing communities, ensuring residents have access to safe housing options and supportive services. You will help ensure residents experiencing domestic violence, trauma, or other urgent housing needs have access to safe and appropriate housing options. You will guide residents through emergency transfer processes and reasonable accommodation requests, ensuring all actions align with federal, state, and local regulations—as well as Related Affordable Management internal policies. Acting as a trusted liaison, you’ll collaborate closely with property management teams, community advocacy partners, elected officials, the City of Chicago, HUD, and law enforcement to ensure residents receive dignified, timely support. In addition to supporting emergency housing needs, you will partner with the Director of Resident Services to help plan and coordinate meaningful resident programming designed to promote stability, connection, and well-being across our communities. Essential Job Functions Educate survivors on their rights and protections under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), the Illinois Domestic Violence Act, and other applicable federal, state, and local programs. Guide survivors through Related Affordable Management internal transfer policies and available housing options to support their safety and well-being. Conduct intake screenings for emergency and internal transfer applicants and maintain documentation in accordance with program requirements. Maintain and regularly update internal listings of available transfer units and housing opportunities. Provide residents with referrals and resources for crisis response, counseling, and ongoing supportive services. Collaborate with community-based organizations, advocacy groups, and service providers to ensure residents have access to wrap-around support. Coordinate housing resources and communication efforts with the HUD Regional Office and PBS8 VAWA Coalition to facilitate secure and compliant transfer processes. Support Resident Services programming by assisting in program planning, implementation, training, and the onboarding and development of Resident Services Coordinators. Serve as a knowledgeable resource for residents by maintaining an up-to-date understanding of community services, including mental and behavioral health, youth programs, senior support, and workforce development opportunities. Participate in community needs assessments through direct resident engagement, surveys, outreach events, and ongoing relationship-building. Foster strong relationships with resident associations, local government agencies, service partners, and community leaders to support collaborative community development initiatives. Represent Related Affordable at meetings, forums, and community events, including resident information sessions during renovation and redevelopment projects. Compensation $28.00 - $31.25 / hour Annual Performance Bonus Compensation for this position is dependent on a variety of factors, including individual qualifications and geographical location. The range provided is intended to offer a general guideline and may vary based on these factors. Qualifications Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Public Policy, Social Work, Healthcare or related field. Three (3)+ years of relevant experience in nonprofit, social service or public/government sector. Background in risk mitigation, trauma informed care, mental health, or substance abuse is a plus. Past property management experience a plus. Must be organized and detail oriented. Proven experience in customer service management is essential. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and navigate sensitive issues professionally. A strong passion for social action, delivery of quality services and the preservation of affordable housing. Demonstrates accountability and reliability by taking full ownership of projects and outcomes, prioritizing precision and attention to detail, and approaching challenges with grit, resilience, and proactive problem-solving, while continuously engaging in learning and development to enhance performance; fosters collaboration and a resident-centered environment, ensuring empathy, respect, and cross-functional success in all interactions.
