Cost Accounting Manager

We are seeking a skilled Cost Accounting Manager to join our finance team and play a key role in driving operational and financial performance.
Position Summary The Cost Accounting Manager will lead all aspects of cost accounting, inventory valuation, and manufacturing financial analysis. This position will partner closely with operations, supply chain, and finance leadership to provide insight into production costs, efficiency, and profitability. The ideal candidate has a strong manufacturing accounting background, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to translate financial data into actionable business recommendations.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee all cost accounting functions, including standard costing, variance analysis, and cost of goods sold (COGS) reporting.
Maintain and update product cost standards and bills of materials (BOMs).
Analyze manufacturing performance, labor and overhead absorption, and identify areas for cost improvement.
Manage monthly closing activities related to inventory, work-in-progress (WIP), and cost accounting adjustments.
Reconcile inventory accounts and ensure accurate valuation across all production sites.
Prepare detailed cost reports and margin analysis to support pricing and product profitability decisions.
Collaborate with operations and engineering on cost reduction initiatives and process improvements.
Support annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes for manufacturing operations.
Lead and develop a small team of cost or staff accountants (if applicable).
Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and corporate financial policies.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA, CMA, or MBA preferred.
Experience: 5–8+ years of progressive cost accounting or manufacturing finance experience, including at least 2 years in a leadership role.
Strong knowledge of standard costing, variance analysis, and inventory accounting.
Experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar) and strong Excel skills.
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and influence decision-making.
