Position Overview We are seeking a dynamic, forward-thinking
Director of Learning & Development (L&D)
to design and lead our enterprise-wide learning strategy. This is a highly visible leadership role that requires strong collaboration with the
COO, CMO, and other key stakeholders
to shape and execute a strategy that supports AmeriVet's growth plans. The Director will ensure that our DVMs, veterinary technicians, client service teams, and leaders at all levels receive targeted, impactful training and development to
maximize clinical capacity, build leadership capability, and improve practice performance
across all sites. The ideal candidate is both a strategic architect and a hands-on builder—able to gain buy-in from senior leaders, design scalable programs for a multi-site environment, and leverage data to continuously measure and improve outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Enterprise L&D Strategy
Develop and implement a multi-year learning and development strategy aligned with AmeriVet's growth objectives, focusing on
clinical development for DVMs ,
support staff skills , and
leadership capability-building .
Partner with the
COO and CMO
to define clinical education priorities, ensuring learning initiatives are directly tied to improving practice capacity and patient care.
Program Design & Delivery
Oversee the creation and deployment of scalable, multi-modal learning programs (in-person, virtual, and digital) that meet the needs of a geographically dispersed workforce.
Establish
clinical pathways, career development frameworks, and leadership training programs
to improve retention, readiness, and engagement.
Integrate best practices in adult learning, clinical simulation, leadership development, and emerging technologies (LMS, mobile learning, microlearning, etc.).
Performance Management & Leadership Development
Partner with People & Culture leaders to design and enhance AmeriVet's
performance management framework , ensuring clear alignment between individual goals, development plans, and organizational objectives.
Build and scale
leadership development initiatives
for practice managers, regional leaders, and future executives to strengthen AmeriVet's leadership pipeline.
Provide tools, resources, and coaching to help leaders effectively develop, evaluate, and retain their teams.
Stakeholder Engagement & Change Leadership
Build strong relationships with senior leaders, practice managers, and hospital teams to secure buy-in and adoption of training and performance initiatives.
Act as a trusted advisor to operational and clinical leaders, aligning learning and performance programs with business goals.
Serve as a visible champion for professional development and continuous improvement across the organization.
Measurement & Continuous Improvement
Define KPIs and success metrics (e.g., clinical efficiency, leadership readiness, patient throughput, retention, satisfaction) to measure program impact.
Use data and feedback loops to refine programs and demonstrate ROI to executive stakeholders.
Continuously evaluate new methods and innovations to keep AmeriVet on the cutting edge of veterinary learning and talent development.
Operational Leadership
Manage the L&D budget, ensuring resources are prioritized for maximum strategic impact.
Build and mentor a high-performing L&D team that can scale with organizational growth.
Strategic Outcomes Success in this role will be measured by the Director's ability to directly contribute to AmeriVet's business objectives, including:
Increased Clinical Capacity:
Training programs that enable practices to see more pets per day without compromising quality of care.
Improved DVM & Support Staff Retention:
Establishing career pathways, mentorship, leadership training, and performance frameworks that reduce turnover and strengthen engagement.
Stronger Leadership Pipeline:
Developing leaders at all levels to ensure AmeriVet has ready-now talent to support rapid growth and operational excellence.
Faster Ramp-to-Productivity:
Reducing the time it takes for new hires (DVMs, technicians, CSRs) to achieve full clinical and operational productivity.
Enhanced Client Experience:
Equipping staff with the skills and tools to improve communication, service delivery, and client satisfaction.
Demonstrated ROI:
Using data and KPIs to show clear links between training, leadership, and performance management investments and practice outcomes (e.g., revenue growth, efficiency, patient care).
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Science, Education, Organizational Development, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
8+ years of progressive leadership experience in Learning & Development, Performance Management, or Organizational Development, preferably within veterinary, healthcare, or other multi-site industries.
Deep knowledge of
instructional design, adult learning theory, leadership development, and clinical education models .
Strong track record of influencing and collaborating with senior leaders (COO, CMO, or equivalent) to shape strategy and drive adoption.
Experience designing scalable programs for a
multi-state, multi-site workforce .
Proficiency with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and modern digital learning platforms.
Exceptional communication, facilitation, and change leadership skills.
