While all substantive areas of expertise will be considered, we are particularly interested in applicants with research agendas focused on (a) policing or (b) biosocial criminology. The position is a full-time, 9-month appointment that begins August 8, 2026.Florida Atlantic is a Carnegie doctorate-granting university with over 32,000 students. Our intention is to reimagine our professions, promote multidisciplinary education and research, address a wider spectrum of societal needs, and champion systemic change through scholarship, teaching, and service.Our School offers a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice degree, a minor in Criminal Justice, a minor in Forensic Investigation, a Master of Science in Criminology and Criminal Justice degree, and a 5-year combined BA/MS degree program in Criminology and Criminal Justice. The SCCJ is also home to the paralegal and legal nurse consulting certificate programs. The undergraduate degree program is the fifth largest by enrollment at Florida Atlantic and offers a rich educational environment through multiple delivery methods, including face-to-face, online, and hybrid/blended formats. School initiatives include a decision-making simulation lab, a student CJ Club, a Mock Trial Team, community engaged research, study abroad, high school summer camps, a fully online undergraduate degree program, research colloquia, and research partnerships with the public, private, and not-for-profit sectors. ABDs will be considered but requirements for the Ph.D. must be completed by the position start date. A Juris Doctorate alone is not sufficient. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to conduct independent research and publish in peer reviewed journals, have a record of or the potential for securing external funding, and engage in research and/or service with our communities. Faculty are expected to teach in the undergraduate and graduate programs and across multiple modalities, including fully online courses. The current teaching load is 3:2, though pre-tenure assistant professors receive release time to establish their research program.
