Overview APeX Application Analyst - Beaker

Job Summary This position is considered Flexible Rotation: The employee will work on a rotational schedule to ensure on-site coverage of key IT functions. The APeX Application Analyst - Beaker functions as the primary support contact and expert for the Beaker lab applications. They work under the direction of the Team Lead and/or the Lab Information Systems (LIS) Manager and participate in the planning, design, build and testing for the Epic Beaker LIS implementation. They continue to support the Beaker application post go-live and collaborate with Lab and/or Pathology operations to optimize their workflow processes. In depth knowledge of laboratory application and operational requirements and the ability to translate those into system specifications and configuration is required. Assists with other technical activities including the analysis of new releases to determine how workflow should be modified, building and populating databases and tables during initial system configuration, conducting system testing and conversion data validation. The application analyst aids with the development and documentation of project requirements, test plans, internal procedures and establishes change control processes for the application.

Responsibilities

Work as the primary support contact and expert for the Beaker lab applications.

Participate in planning, design, build and testing for the Epic Beaker LIS implementation.

Provide post go-live support and collaborate with Lab/Pathology operations to optimize workflows.

Translate laboratory requirements into system specifications and configuration.

Analyze new releases to determine required workflow modifications; build and populate databases during initial configuration.

Conduct system testing and data conversion validation.

Develop and document project requirements, test plans, and procedures; establish change control processes.

Training and Support

Work with the Principal Beaker Trainer to develop user training aids and train end users in workflow and use of the Beaker application.

Serve as primary contact to troubleshoot end-user problems during training, go-live, stabilization and ongoing support (7x24).

Communicate effectively and independently, collaborating across project teams.

Demonstrate attention to detail and commitment to helping users learn and adapt to the application.

Qualifications Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in health care information technology, computer science, or related area, and/or equivalent combination of experience/training.

3+ years of relevant Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and/or Lab Operational experience

Available for 7 x 24 application support

Broad and/or in-depth knowledge of 1-2 areas of focus in clinical applications specialty area(s) with knowledge of design, development, implementation, user support, training, maintenance, QA, and testing

Strong problem-resolution skills and ability to diagnose, test, and implement solutions promptly

Strong interpersonal skills to train, support, and collaborate with users at all levels

Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and ability to manage time and meet deadlines

Strong written and verbal communication skills to convey technical information clearly

Strong analytical skills and ability to design and execute tests, analyze performance data, and produce reports

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to work with senior staff as a technical resource for functionality, efficiency, policy, and performance advice

Academic Medical Center experience

Certifications: Beaker Clinical Pathology (CP) and Beaker Anatomic Pathology (AP)

Salary and Benefits The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range depends on work experience and internal equity. For positions represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the collective bargaining agreement. Salary range: $102,100 - $187,600 (Annual Rate).
