Job Title: Phlebotomist Job Description The Phlebotomist provides expertise in blood draws and specimen preparation. Their ability to put patients at ease and obtain sufficient samples with minimal discomfort to patients across a wide demographic is critical to our commitment to high quality care for our patients and those of our partners. Responsibilities
- Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and conduct decontamination procedures.
- Update patient information and collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
- Explain the process of venipuncture or other specimen collections in a clear and courteous manner.
- Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
- Fully understand all physicians' orders and match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
- Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order and ensure all test requisitions or computer labels are 100% correct.
- Package specimens for transport and store specimen samples according to required temperature.
- Place samples in appropriate collection container/tube, accurately label, and follow procedures necessary to maintain specimen integrity for transport.
- Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
- Wear appropriate attire and attend annual department trainings.
- Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

- Proficiency in blood draws using straight needles
- 2-3 years of experience in drawing blood
- Strong administrative skills and attention to detail
- Experience with infant draws is a plus
- Experience with pediatric blood drawing
