Director, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) – Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center RWJBarnabas Health | Livingston, New Jersey

Overview : RWJBarnabas Health (RWJBH) and Rutgers Health are seeking an experienced pediatric intensivist for the role of Director for the 10-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center (CBMC) in Livingston, NJ. The successful candidate will manage and develop the CBMC PICU clinical and academic programs and partner with other critical care leaders to manage and integrate the service system-wide. The right intensivist leader will join our 23 other intensivists who manage 54 PICU beds in a well-functioning group and will value camaraderie, adaptability and teamwork. The candidate should have experience in managing complex situations, interacting with hospital administration and mentoring of new faculty.

Highlights :

CBMC is the home of the Children’s Kidney Center that cares for a large number of pediatric renal transplant recipients; the PICU is integral to this program

CBMC diagnoses approximately 70 new diabetics per year, many who present in DKA and are PICU managed

CBMC is the home for New Jersey’s Adult and Pediatric Burn ICU, staffed by burn experts

CBMC is building a level 4 pediatric epilepsy center and has started performing SEG surgeries

CBMC PICU cares for a large number of complex post-operative patients from multiple neurosurgeons, ENTs, urologists, and pediatric surgeons

CBMC PICU has an active research program that participates in large multi-center collaboratives and includes dedicated research coordinator time

CBMC has a 56-bed NICU, 31-bed Pediatric floor, 8-bed Pediatric Emergency Department and cares for approximately 6,000 newborns per year

Subspecialties include allergy, cardiology, child development, pediatric emergency medicine, endocrinology, gastroenterology, genetics, hematology/oncology, immunology, infectious diseases, neonatology, nephrology, neurology, pulmonology and rheumatology. Surgical specialty areas include craniofacial surgery, general surgery, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, orthopedic, otolaryngology, plastic surgery, renal transplant and urology

There is an active PICU collaborative that promotes clinical, academic, and outcome excellence at RWJBH. Most intensivists have clinical presence at multiple pediatric centers within RWJBH, enabling best practices and complete skillsets. The Rutgers affiliation provides access to research resources outside CBMC including a Clinical Research Center, Clinical Trials Office, and other resources at Rutgers University. Our intensivists have a wide range of non-clinical interests including global health, health equity, clinical and translational research, education, quality improvement and administration.

CBMC is located in Northern New Jersey in Essex County, offering easy access to the Jersey Shore, NYC, suburban neighborhoods, diverse communities, and top-tier school districts with ample cultural and recreational options.

Requirements :

Board certified in pediatric critical care

NJ license or eligible for licensure

Commitment to academic excellence including education and mentorship of all members of the healthcare team

Exceptional interpersonal skills and strong internal locus of control

Academic appointment and compensation are commensurate with experience and achievements. We are an EEO employer.

Compensation :

The anticipated salary range for this position is $283,000 to $400,000 per year. Additional compensation will be determined based on education, skills, and professional experience.
