Provide leadership, management and accountability to ensure SMUD's transmission and distribution substation infrastructure has the required capacity, maintenance, and reliability using specialized electrical engineering expertise; direct a multi-functional staff across planning, design, construction, and startup operations from initial planning through budget development, scheduling, resource allocation, engineering design, document management, construction and startup operation. Implement innovations in design, equipment, and materials in the Substation business; identify and evaluate industry best practices to be incorporated in SMUDs infrastructure. Direct the work of subordinates in a multi-functional unit and maintain staffing levels and work quality to meet objectives; hire, discipline, coach, mentor, and develop staff; ensure safety and prevent injury; ensure schedules and budgets are met. Supervise and manage development and implementation of work processes, policies, and procedures related to planning, design, construction and maintenance of SMUDs Substations; negotiate, execute and administer contracts as needed. Additional Duties and Responsibilities

Develop and administer the budget for the assigned lines of business; monitor expenditures, adjust schedules, and recommend budgetary actions. Provide performance management for assigned personnel and develop team relationships with internal clients and external partners. Ensure adherence to SMUD safety policies and all applicable safety laws; promote a safe workplace and conduct safety training. Represent SMUD in governmental, industry and professional organizations; participate in forums to enrich planning, design, construction and maintenance processes. Provide on-call supervision and emergency response support as needed. Oversee internal/external department projects: define objectives, assemble project teams, develop RFPs, monitor progress, and ensure projects meet scope, budget, schedule and quality standards. Other related duties as needed; schedules and locations may fluctuate based on business needs. Qualifications

Required Education:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Electrical Engineering or related field. Required Experience:

Five (5+) or more years of progressively responsible relevant work experience in planning, design, construction, modification, or maintenance of transmission and distribution substations, including five (5+) years in a leadership (supervisory) role. Knowledge, Skills & Desirable Qualifications

Knowledge of electrical engineering for secondary network planning, design, construction and maintenance; safety and hazardous waste regulations; industry best practices; budgeting; and project management. Skills to lead and manage multi-discipline teams, design and document processes, manage emergencies, and communicate effectively. Desirable:

Experience in the design of electrical facilities for distribution and transmission substations; California Professional Registered Electrical Engineer. Physical Requirements
