Position: Receptionist/Registered Dental Assistant

Department: Colusa Indian Dental Clinic

Reports to: Director of Clinic Operations

Classification: Non-Exempt

Status: Regular, Full Time

Job Function:

The Dental Receptionist provides office support services that creates an environment where every person feels welcomed and is shown respect and empathy.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Enhances Dental Clinic and the Organizations reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Maintains personal appearance, workstation and waiting area in compliance with clinical confidentiality and patient service protocols.
  • Answers telephones courteously, make appointments and take messages according to protocols.
  • Greets patients and visitors warmly at the front desk and provide both registration and exit support services.
  • Documents insurance eligibility and inform patients of the estimated services cost and their treatment plan payment requirements.
  • Processes route slips and return to Billing Coordinator.
  • Balances daily cash receipts and cash bag.
  • Prepares clinical records for patients visit with the provider.
  • Assists clinical staff in maintenance and filing of completed patient records.
  • Maintains office supply orders.
  • Collaborates with all coworkers in performing duties required to provide patient-focused services that meet all regulatory and licensing standards.
  • Maintains high confidentiality standards at all times. Is required to sign a confidentiality statement upon acceptance of employment.
  • Displays a comprehensive knowledge of and ability to implement dental care techniques.
  • Has thorough knowledge of dental instrumentation and equipment use and care.
  • Proficiency in dental procedures and potential complications.
  • Is able to recognize signs and symptoms of emergency situations and interventions.
  • Prepares patient, sterilizes and disinfects instruments, sets up instrument trays, prepares materials, and assists dentist during dental procedures.
  • Takes and records medical and dental histories and vital signs of patient.
  • Exposes dental diagnostic x-rays.
  • Makes preliminary impressions for study casts and occlusal registrations for mounting study casts.
  • Pours, trims, and polishes study casts, fabricates custom impression trays from preliminary impressions, cleans and polishes removable appliances, and fabricates temporary restorations.
  • Instructs patients in oral hygiene and plaque control programs.
  • Provides postoperative instructions prescribed by Dentist.
  • Records treatment information in patient records.
  • Collaborates with all coworkers in performing duties required to provide patient-focused services that meet all regulatory and licensing standards.
  • Maintains current CPR certification.
  • Maintains high confidentiality standards at all times. Is required to sign a confidentiality statement upon acceptance of employment.
  • All other duties as assigned.


Additional Desired Qualifications:

  • Bi-lingual in Spanish preferred.


Education and Experience:

  • RDA or DA Certification
  • At least 6 months of experience working in a dental office preferred.


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for long period of time, bend, kneel and lift heavy objects.


Licensing Requirements:

  • Documentation of Dental Assistant Training
  • Current radiograph certification with the State of California.
  • Valid CPR/1st Aid certification
