The Colorado State Senate Majority Office is seeking a Policy Analyst to support the caucus in developing legislation and executing our legislative agenda.

This full‑time position reports directly to the Chief of Staff and Deputy Chief of Staff and provides critical policy analysis, committee support, and stakeholder outreach.

Responsibilities

Conduct policy research and analysis for caucus members in developing legislation.

Read and analyze bills before introduction to provide brief summaries and identify potential concerns.

Coordinate stakeholder outreach regarding legislation, including working with House and Governor’s office staff.

Create and update support materials for the legislative process, such as tracking spreadsheets and briefing memos.

Meet with lobbyists and organizations on specific pieces of legislation.

Committee Support

Review all bills scheduled before committees and proactively identify discussion areas.

Provide guidance to Committee Chairs on schedules and meeting agendas.

Prepare materials in advance of committee meetings to guide discussion.

Track committee hearings and document decisions, discussion topics, and troubleshooting issues.

Research and provide guidance on all Senate‑confirmed appointments referred to committees.

Preferred Skills and Experience

Experience in policy analysis and development, preferably in Colorado.

Working knowledge of Colorado statutes.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset.

Ability to summarize complex ideas into concise, comprehensible bullet points.

Strong critical‑thinking and problem‑solving orientation.

Detail‑oriented with strong organizational skills.

Self‑motivated and able to work independently under tight deadlines.

Track record of managing multiple projects simultaneously.

Solid judgment, political sense, honesty, and discretion.

Passion for progressive politics.

Compensation Salary range $70,000 – $85,000 plus a comprehensive benefits package, including public retirement, health, dental, vision, life insurance, short‑term disability, FSA/HSA, 10 paid sick days and 12 paid vacation days.
