Overview
Phlebotomy Technician I or II - 50% - Nights (2300-0730). The Inpatient Phlebotomy Team intends to hire for one position at either the Phlebotomy Technician I classification, requisition #25005928, or Phlebotomy Technician II, requisition #25005929, based on the qualifications of the successful candidate. The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is seeking to fill a Phlebotomy Technician II position to perform phlebotomy and a variety of difficult venipuncture procedures. Completes laboratory tasks related to routine phlebotomy labeling procedures, telephone inquiries, and distribution of phlebotomy supplies. Instructs new staff on phlebotomy techniques as needed, monitors progress of trainees (Phlebotomist Iās).
Responsibilities
- Performs all duties of a Phlebotomist I, including phlebotomy draws, computer data entry and other clerical tasks, and orders, receives, and distributes supplies; responds to basic phlebotomy inquiries and represents assigned and related work areas.
- Performs complex and difficult specimen procurement processes.
- Instructs and trains others in phlebotomy techniques.
- Responds to or directs responses to inquiries concerning phlebotomy policies and procedures.
- Performs data entry and computer tasks related to order entry and phlebotomy.
- Inventories, receives, stocks, and distributes phlebotomy supplies.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements
- High school graduation or equivalent
- Certification as a Phlebotomist Technician by ACA, AMT, ASCP, NCA, NCCT, or NHA
- Six months of full-time experience performing phlebotomy work, or completion of a Phlebotomy training program
Desirable Qualifications
- Basic computer skills
- Previous experience with personal protective equipment
