Job Summary:
Work under limited supervision, performing compliance, operational, IT, and other audits per the annual audit plan while following GAGAS and IPPF standards. Advance from Performance Auditor to Senior and Principal with increased responsibility.
Job Duties Performance Auditor
Prepare audit work papers with sufficient, relevant evidence.
Evaluate internal controls and audit steps based on risk.
Conduct unannounced audits, interview agency personnel, and coordinate schedules.
Senior Performance Auditor
Same responsibilities as Performance Auditor with added complexity.
Adjust procedures and plans to address audit objectives.
Principal Auditor
Develop, perform, and report on high‑risk and complex engagements.
Mentor new auditors and conduct audit quality control reviews.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Auditing accounting and auditing methods and systems.
Computer technology principles, terminology, and programming.
Federal regulations, Arizona Revised Statutes, agency manuals & policies.
Accurately analyze and interpret data.
Communicate effectively and train others.
Compose clear and concise audit reports.
Accurately complete audit working papers.
Selective Preference(s)
Experience in auditing work, principles, standards, and techniques.
Experience Requirements
Performance Auditor 4: Minimum 1 year of related audit experience.
Senior Performance Auditor 4: Minimum 2 years of experience as a Performance Auditor 3, with proficiency in audit planning, risk assessment, and internal control evaluation.
Principal Auditor 4: Minimum 3 years of experience;
Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) and/or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
Pre‑Employment Requirements Must possess a current, valid class‑appropriate driver’s license and maintain acceptable driving records. Employees operating motor vehicles on state business must meet licensing, training, and insurance requirements per Arizona administrative code.
