Job Summary Environmental Services Technician is responsible for maintaining a safe and sanitary environment in patient/resident rooms and assigned areas. Tasks include emptying waste baskets, sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, and polishing floors, using brooms, mops, and powered scrubbing machines. The technician must demonstrate knowledge of housekeeping processes and apply them to provide clean and sterile environments for patients/residents and facility staff.
Responsibilities include cleaning patient/resident rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas to meet health standards. Proper protective equipment must be used, storage and equipment kept well-stocked and tidy, and technology such as pagers used appropriately. The role may also involve assisting in laundry areas and using technology applications as needed.
Physical demands include lifting and moving up to 40‑50 lbs, pushing or pulling variable weight limits, and being on feet for most of the shift. Depending on location, the schedule may include overtime, back‑up calls, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
Minimum of six months housekeeping or commercial cleaning experience (preferred)
Ability to use a computer
Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, equipment, and cleaning chemicals (helpful)
Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills (required)
Previous custodial experience in a healthcare environment (preferred)
