Senior Applied Scientist – Microsoft Advertising
Microsoft is innovating rapidly in the advertising space to grow its share of this market by providing the ad industry with the state‑of‑the‑art online advertising platform and service. As a senior applied scientist, you will design and implement machine‑learning models and algorithms that power key systems within Microsoft Ads, Microsoft Audience Network, Copilot, and beyond. Your work will directly impact millions of users and advertisers by delivering scalable solutions that enhance ad relevance and optimize user experiences.
Location & Office Policy.
You are expected to work from the office at least four days per week at the designated location.

Senior applied scientist roles are available on the following teams:
Signals Modeling Team
– Mountain View, CA, Redmond, WA or New York, NY. Focus on modeling how users interact with ads on the search results page, building machine‑learned models for click‑through and page‑engagement prediction, and improving ad ranking.
Sales Intelligence for Microsoft Ads
– Mountain View, CA or Redmond, WA. Build a scalable Azure‑native platform that provides sales insights, with core models for forecasting, anomaly detection, clustering, and LLM‑driven summarization.
Demand Intelligence Team
– Redmond, WA. Work on demand‑optimization initiatives including recommendation algorithms, campaign‑optimization workflows, forecasting, and data‑driven analytics.
Responsibilities
Develop and deploy cutting‑edge machine‑learning models, including transformers, generative AI, and reinforcement learning, to optimize user interactions and ad relevance across Microsoft Ads and Copilot.
Design scalable algorithms for online and offline systems, delivering innovative solutions for content selection, user‑engagement modeling, and ad generation.
Drive experimentation through A/B testing and offline validation to evaluate model performance and refine predictions.
Build robust data pipelines and frameworks for handling large‑scale, high‑dimensional datasets to support advanced AI applications.
Lead model design for anomaly detection, forecasting, customer segmentation, and integration of LLM prompts in sales‑intelligence workflows.
Mentor early‑career scientists, contribute to model governance and Responsible AI practices, and operationalize insights into dashboards and alerting systems.
Qualifications Required Qualifications –
Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years of related experience.
OR Master’s degree AND 3+ years of related experience.
OR Doctorate AND 1+ year of related experience.
OR equivalent experience.
2+ years of experience developing and deploying large‑scale machine‑learning models.
Preferred Qualifications –
Proven programming and data‑analysis skills.
Expertise in generative AI, deep learning, reinforcement learning, or transformers.
Benefits & Compensation Base pay range USD 119,800 – 234,700 per year (U.S.); additional ranges for San Francisco Bay Area and New York City. Eligible for benefits and other compensation; see Microsoft careers site for details.
