Systems Planning Engineer A Day in the Life:
Performs hydraulic modeling on natural gas and liquids pipeline systems using both steady state and transient simulations
Identifies and develops optimization opportunities using hydraulic modeling software
Works closely with pipeline control, operations, and commercial functions to identify hydraulic impacts and help plan outages on the system
Works closely with internal partners to scope facilities required for expansion projects
Develops new application tools, facilitates improvements in design modeling philosophies, and provides training and support to enhance the organization’s capabilities as it relates to hydraulic modeling.
Responds to internal and external inquiries for measurement and SCADA data and performs data analysis, providing appropriate reports and charts to display results
Develops and maintains a range of automated and customized reports related to pipeline operations and forecasts
As a Systems Planning Engineer, you will conduct technical and economic evaluations, performance testing, design and construction of new and existing facilities, and research on new developments, applying your strong understanding of industry and operational requirements. Taking initiative and anticipating customer needs will make you a stand‑out player. Confidence in presentation-making and the ability to work independently and as a team leader are also vital in this role.
Responsibilities/Expectations:
Accounts for a diverse range of sophisticated assignments requiring the use of experience, innovation and judgment
May supervise the work of others
Demonstrates technical expertise in a specialty, geographic area, or operational function and applies specialized knowledge in the effective completion of large‑scope projects
Prepares and delivers presentations
Anticipates internal/external customer needs; assesses requirements and identifies solutions
Interprets internal/external business challenges and improves products, processes or services
Collaborates with teams to ensure compliance, build improvement plans and meet training needs
Champions processes, procedures and safety standards
Monitors and controls costs and resources associated with projects
Other duties as assigned
May direct the work of other engineers and/or support staff
Education/Years of Experience: Engineer III
Required: Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant Engineering field from an accredited college or university, OR Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Technology in a relevant field with Professional Engineer (P.E.) license; a minimum of four (4) years of multifaceted engineering experience in the natural gas or petrochemical industry
Engineer Sr
Required: Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant Engineering field from an accredited college or university, OR Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Technology in a relevant field with Professional Engineer (P.E.) license; a minimum of eight (8) years of multifaceted engineering experience in the natural gas or petrochemical industry
Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and a minimum of seven (7) years of progressive engineering experience in the natural gas or petrochemical industry and PE Certification
Other Requirements:
Demonstrates excellent organizational/interpersonal skills and safety as a main priority
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Application and PC skills
Demonstrates extensive knowledge and understanding of pipeline’s operational requirements
Preferred: Hydraulic simulation modeling experience using DNV‑GL SYNERGI Gas and Schlumberger PIPESIM and OLGA Modeling Software
Preferred: Experience with Excel, VBA, Power BI, Python
Preferred: PE license
