Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Consulting Engineer Optical to join our team. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, CA.

Roles And Responsibilities

Lead the development of architectures and requirements for optical communication / lasercom systems

Lead multi-disciplinary teams to design and develop optical communication systems payloads

Engage with senior customer leadership and external stakeholders to address multi-disciplinary technical challenges

Take responsibility for attracting and obtaining new company business, including leadership roles on proposals and captures

Basic Qualifications

Bachelors of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) field from an accredited institution with a minimum of 16 years of experience developing optical subsystems in an aerospace environment; or 14 years of experience developing optical subsystems in an aerospace environment with a STEM Master's degree; or 12 years of experience developing optical subsystems in an aerospace environment with a STEM PhD

Must have U.S. Citizenship with active or current TS/SCI clearance at time of application

Experience developing space-based optical communication systems

Experience providing technical direction to multi-disciplinary engineering teams to achieve mission success

Experience working in a direct customer-facing role engaging with external technical leadership

Experience working with external suppliers supporting the development of space-based optical communication systems payloads

Experience developing interfaces and addressing host accommodation requirements for space-based payloads, including demonstrated knowledge of environmental testing requirements and protocols

Experience developing and presenting briefing slides to senior leaders and executive level personnel

Preferred Qualifications

Experience directly designing complex and hardened optical subsystems for space applications

Demonstrated leadership in bridging from the design phase of a program to flight production, including design for manufacturability

Experience serving in a Chief Engineer role

Ability to make decisions in high pressure environments and maintain composure in stressful situations

This position is contingent upon the candidate obtaining final clearances and program access(es) within a reasonable period of time as determined by the company. Continued employment thereafter will be subject to maintenance of the level of clearance and program access required for the position in the future.

DigitalHardwareEngineering #LosAngelesSpace Primary Level Salary Range: $227,700.00 - $341,500.00. The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
