About Our Client Founded in 2016, this California-based aerospace company specializes in high-resolution radar systems for autonomous vehicles, defense applications, and wind energy sectors. They develop advanced phased-array radar technology that delivers enhanced performance at reduced costs compared to traditional solutions. The privately held company continues to grow as demand increases for their innovative radar sensing capabilities across multiple industries.
Job Description We are seeking a highly skilled Radar Systems Engineer with expertise in phased array radar design, integration, and analysis to join our growing engineering team. This role requires a deep understanding of radar system architecture, signal processing, RF design principles, and system-level performance optimization. The successful candidate will lead the design and development of advanced radar systems for defense, aerospace, or surveillance applications.
Duties and Responsibilities
Design and develop radar system architectures, focusing on phased array radar technologies (active or passive electronically scanned arrays).
Conduct end-to-end system modeling, simulation, and performance analysis using tools like MATLAB, Python, or Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) platforms.
Develop and evaluate radar waveforms, beamforming algorithms, signal processing chains, and target tracking techniques.
Perform system-level trade studies, requirements analysis, and interface definition across RF, digital, and software domains.
Collaborate with RF, digital, firmware, and software engineers on hardware integration and validation activities.
Support prototype development, lab test planning, range testing, and field evaluation of radar systems.
Analyze radar cross-section (RCS), clutter, Doppler, and interference environments to improve detection and tracking capabilities.
Prepare detailed documentation, technical reports, and briefings for internal teams, customers, and stakeholders.
Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers where appropriate.
Required Experience/Skills
Radar Tracker algorithm development and verification through simulation and hardware in the loop.
Beam scheduling and radar resource management algorithm development and verification through simulation and hardware in the loop.
Target acquisition and tracking performance simulation and support experimental validation.
Fire control radar requirements and algorithms experience.
Radar testing campaign design and post-execution analysis experience.
Maintain and expand in-house radar tools and simulation environment in MATLAB.
U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain a government security clearance (if required).
Nice-to-Haves
Experience with military or aerospace radar systems, including airborne, naval, or ground-based platforms.
Familiarity with AESA software-defined radar systems.
Knowledge of embedded processing platforms (e.g., FPGAs, GPUs) and high-performance real-time data acquisition systems.
Experience working within DoD, FAA, or defense contractor environments.
Seniority level Mid-Senior level
Employment type Full-time
