Plant Manager

to oversee operations in our Prospect, CT facility.

Job Summary The Plant Manager has general management responsibility for the overall manufacturing processes as well as the physical facility. This includes accountabilities for all products manufactured, all aspects of safety performance (including environmental, product quality, and quantity), personnel hiring and discipline, training, budgeting, shipping, receiving, cost control and reduction, and developing a strong team environment with clear and effective communications. The role serves as the key interface with a variety of support personnel, including R&D, Engineering, Technical Services, Scheduling, Sales, Customer Service, and Logistics. The Plant Manager utilizes the Carlisle Operating System framework as the foundation for employee training and operational support.

Duties And Responsibilities

Develop a manufacturing team to provide exceptional customer service by supplying the required quantities of products at the lowest possible cost and highest quality while maintaining a safe work environment. Specific duties include employee development/training, plant scheduling, interviewing, hiring/firing, customer contact, root cause analysis, financial tracking, safety implementation, supplier evaluation, and process improvement.

Oversight and leadership of the Lean Manufacturing journey in the plant. This involves leveraging the Carlisle Operating System (COS) to drive daily, incremental improvement in all aspects of the site, with a strong emphasis on employee engagement, capacity improvement, visual management, and advanced manufacturing techniques.

Inventory control. Release all raw materials, supplies, and finished goods. Implement an inventory audit procedure to ensure accurate inventories are maintained at all times.

Create an environment for success among supervisory and production employees by conveying a positive, confident attitude and directing staff to achieve their highest level of performance while treating them with respect and dignity.

Collaborate with purchasing, environmental, health & safety, engineering, human resources, and corporate staff; serve as the local expert for plant‑related topics.

Continuously monitor compliance with all environmental permits pertaining to manufacturing processes and facility operations.

Other duties may include interactions with inside and outside customers, vendors, and agencies.

Required Skills/Abilities/Knowledge

Knowledge of manufacturing processes, products, quality systems, and associated structures such as SPC, SOPs, and process specifications.

Knowledge of government regulations related to people, plant, and process operations (FMLA, OSHA, FLSA, ADA, Worker’s Comp, EPA, unemployment).

Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.

Financial and accounting familiarity, including budgeting, cost control, financial data, project justification, and ACE Process.

Overall understanding of the logistics process, including raw material and finished goods shipments and customer service.

Strong knowledge of MS Office Suite.

Experience working in an ERP system, preferably SAP.

Strong oral and written communication skills, including presentation abilities.

Good organizational skills and effective time management.

Ability to delegate effectively to subordinates and others in supporting roles.

Education And Experience

Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or business‑related field (accounting or finance). Work experience and proven track record of increasing responsibility that includes leadership may be considered in lieu of a degree.

10+ years of experience in a manufacturing position or another plant‑operations closely associated role.

Ability to function in a team environment, work well with others, and handle multiple priorities and projects.

ISO9001/14001 experience a plus.

Efficient problem‑solving skills and ability to work in stressful work situations.

Equipment Used

Computer equipment and general office equipment such as phones, copiers, cameras, and projectors.

Familiarity with measurement devices used in manufacturing and laboratory settings (micrometers, viscometers, calipers, tape measures).

Working Conditions

Environment: generally an office and manufacturing setting.

Exposure to materials used in the manufacture of polyisocyanurate products, including polyols, MDI, facers, additives, plastics, cardboard packaging, and wood.

Core hours: 7 AM to 5 PM. Additional hours may be required to meet production demands.

Monday through Friday; weekends may be required during busy seasons.

On‑call requirement due to 24‑hour operation; availability outside normal hours may be needed.

Travel Requirement

Occasional travel to other facilities for meetings or training, typically no more than 15%.
