Position Summary The Senior Copywriter plays a key role in shaping and maintaining Phoenix Children’s brand voice across all written communications — with a focus on digital platforms, including the hospital’s website, blog and newsletters. This position is responsible for creating clear, compelling, and SEO-optimized copy that engages diverse audiences, drives web traffic and supports organizational goals through data-informed content strategy and performance measurement. The Senior Copywriter collaborates closely with marketing, digital, communications and clinical teams to produce content that is both strategically aligned and emotionally resonant. This role requires exceptional writing and editing skills, a deep understanding of healthcare communication, and the ability to balance creative storytelling with technical accuracy and compliance. This individual serves as a thought partner in developing SEO-driven editorial strategies and content frameworks that advance the organization’s digital visibility and audience engagement. Ideal candidates bring proven experience in harnessing AI tools, search engine marketing (SEM), search engine optimization (SEO), and content strategy, with a demonstrated ability to transform complex healthcare information into accessible, brand-consistent narratives.

Position Duties

Brand Voice and Content Development:

Serves as a primary steward of Phoenix Children’s brand voice, ensuring consistency, accuracy and tone across all written content.

Writes, edits and proofreads compelling copy for the website, blog, physician biographies, emails, newsletters, marketing campaigns and internal communications.

Translates complex medical and technical concepts into clear, engaging language for parents, patients, clinicians and community stakeholders.

Partners with designers, marketers, communicators and clinical experts to develop storytelling that supports brand and service-line objectives.

SEO and SEM Strategy Integration:

Develops and implements SEO best practices across web content to improve search rankings, visibility and user engagement.

Collaborates with the digital marketing team to integrate SEM strategies, optimize landing pages and ensure message consistency across paid and organic channels.

Conducts keyword research and content audits to inform ongoing content optimization.

Monitors and reports on content performance using analytics tools, making data-driven recommendations for improvement.

Works closely with the digital marketing team to apply performance insights and continually refine content for discoverability, engagement, and conversion.

Website and Digital Content Management:

Works closely with the digital and marketing teams to ensure timely updates and accuracy of all site copy.

Oversees editorial planning for blog and web content aligned with organizational priorities and seasonal campaigns.

Leads periodic audits of web and blog content to ensure accuracy and relevance.

Ensures all online content adheres to WCAG 2.1 Level AA Compliance accessibility standards, SEO best practices and HIPAA compliance.

Marketing and Internal Communication Support:

Writes and edits copy for print and digital marketing materials, including brochures, service-line campaigns and advertising.

Supports internal communications, including leadership messages, newsletters and employee engagement materials.

Ensures all materials align with brand standards and health system goals.

Collaboration, Mentorship and Quality Control:

Provides guidance and feedback to contributors to maintain quality and consistency across content.

Reviews content created by agency partners or other departments to ensure alignment with Phoenix Children’s tone and messaging.

Participates in content planning sessions and contributes to creative brainstorming and campaign development.

Miscellaneous Duties:

Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.

Position Qualifications Education:

Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Marketing, or related field.

Experience:

Seven (7) or more years of professional writing and content development experience.

Proven experience in healthcare communications, preferably in a hospital, health system, or agency setting.

Demonstrated proficiency in SEO and SEM best practices, content strategy and keyword optimization.

Experience writing for websites, blogs, newsletters and marketing collateral.

Experience with content management systems and analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, SEMrush).

Special Skills:

Exceptional writing, editing and storytelling abilities across multiple formats and audiences.

Deep understanding of SEO, SEM and web writing principles.

Ability to maintain accuracy and brand consistency across channels.

Strong collaboration and project management skills.

Creative, strategic thinker with attention to detail and deadlines.

Knowledge of AP Style and healthcare terminology (Preferred).
