JOB SUMMARY J. Jeffers & Co. is searching for a

Property Accountant

that will be responsible for managing and executing various property accounting functions related to lease transactions and tenant reconciliations for a portfolio of residential and commercial real estate properties. This role involves participating in the monthly and quarterly financial process, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations. The ideal candidate should possess strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and have strong knowledge of property accounting and experience in real estate development. This role reports directly to the Controller.

Responsibilities

Execute the monthly rent up process, ensuring all rental income is recorded correctly.

Perform monthly bank reconciliation, ensuring all transactions are accurately recorded and discrepancies are resolved.

Conduct comprehensive reconciliations for Common Area Maintenance (CAM) charges, tenant expenses, and operating expenses for the commercial portfolio.

Address and resolve tenant inquiries related to operating expenses and work closely with property manager and accounts receivable to ensure timely resolution.

Monitor and reconcile prepaid rent and rent postings in cash management system.

Reconcile construction draw information for the assets under construction. Review construction contracts in the Construction Manager system.

Manage Accounts Payable items which includes entering invoices, running AP aging reports, and managing vendor relationships and payments. Communicating with vendors as needed and collecting proper new vendor paperwork.

Oversee property tax process to ensure that tax accruals, payments, and tenant tax collections align with expectations.

Enter GL journal entries accurately and timely and process quarterly entries related to tenant revenue and expense accounts.

Conduct quarterly reconciliations of all relevant accounts, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.

Prepare and analyze the collections report to monitor outstanding payments and ensure timely collections.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including but not limited to Property Management and Asset Management, to optimize financial and operational performance.

Ensure effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.

Other duties as assigned by Controller.

Experience

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.

Minimum 4-6 years of experience in property accounting.

Strong knowledge of GAAP and lease accounting standards.

Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.

Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Experience with internal controls and supporting SOX requirements preferred.

Yardi, MRI, or similar Property Management software experience preferred.
