Shifts Hiring: Part‑time, Full‑time

Job Summary Provide appropriate, efficient and timely pre‑hospital basic life support care and transportation of the sick and injured in accordance with local, state, national and Acadian Ambulance standards of practice.

Duties and Responsibilities

Conduct a careful examination of the patient for signs and symptoms of illness/injury and assist other medical personnel as necessary.

Administer prompt and efficient basic life support care within the limits of licensure or certification and in accordance with approved protocols before and during transport.

Handle the patient carefully to and from the ambulance.

Transport the patient safely and efficiently to the medical facility.

Transfer the patient and patient care information safely and efficiently to receiving personnel at the destination.

Document all aspects of patient condition and treatment on EMS run reports. Obtain and record non‑medical patient information as required and complete other required forms.

Conduct regular unit inventory and equipment testing to ensure all equipment for which the EMT‑Basic is responsible is present, clean and in proper working order.

After transport, perform all duties required to return the ambulance and equipment to service.

Maintain full knowledge of the ambulance’s basic life support equipment and its proper use at all times.

Report all necessary repairs to the proper maintenance departments and supervisors.

Use basic extrication tools and procedures to gain access to the patient when no other qualified personnel are available.

Control the patient’s surroundings to minimize further danger and manage bystanders when no other qualified personnel are present.

Operate the ambulance safely and efficiently, following company driving guidelines.

Follow FCC regulations when communicating via electronic equipment.

Attend all mandatory meetings as scheduled.

Complete assigned station duties and maintain station grounds.

Order supplies and equipment from Central Supply to replenish inventories.

Complete all required company reports and logs, and provide information to ambulance and supervisory personnel as needed.

Act as a preceptor for EMT‑Basic students and new employees, as directed by Approved Field Training Officers.

Meet and fulfill all Emergency Medical Technician qualifications, requirements, functions, and responsibilities – Basic job descriptions.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Currently enrolled in an EMT Course.

High School Diploma or GED.

Obtain National and/or State certification as an Emergency Medical Technician as required by state regulations.

Current CPR certification from the American Heart Association.

Current, valid state‑issued driver’s license (equivalent to a Louisiana Class “D” license).

Read, write and communicate professionally and effectively with employees and managers.

Write simple correspondence or reports and present information in one‑on‑one and small group settings.

Know company protocols, operational procedures, and safety policies.

Be able to drive large vehicles in normal and adverse conditions.
