As the Sanitation Lead, you will provide frontline leadership to the sanitation crew (12-14 employees) and support our manufacturing facility’s commitment to food safety, regulatory compliance (SQF & FDA) and organic manufacturing standards. You will ensure that all production equipment, processing areas, and support zones are cleaned, sanitized and maintained to audit‑ready standards. This role requires hands‑on execution, crew oversight, training/coaching of sanitation staff, and partnership with Quality, Production, and Maintenance teams.

Schedule: 1:00 PM - 9:30 PM, Saturday to Wednesday

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Lead and supervise the sanitation team on your shift: assign tasks, monitor progress, mentor/training of new sanitation staff.

Execute sanitation activities according to the Master Sanitation Schedule (daily/weekly/monthly) and Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs).

Ensure compliance with GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices), food safety programs (HACCP/PC controls), SQF code requirements and applicable FDA regulations for food manufacturing.

Support and enforce organic manufacturing standards (cleaning agents, cross‑contact prevention, segregation of allergens and non‑organic materials).

Provide team feedback based on inspections, audits, and environmental monitoring (swabbing) in cooperation with Quality/Audit results.

Maintain all sanitation documentation and records: cleaning logs, chemical usage, sanitation checklists, audit findings, corrective action tracking, CIP swab tracking and trends.

Coordinate with Multi‑departments as Production, QA and Maintenance to ensure equipment is accessible, cleaned thoroughly, and re‑approved for use.

Manage chemical training for sanitation 2 nd shift (cleaning agents, sanitizers), ensure proper handling, storage, labeling, and usage.

Promote a culture of safety: ensure PPE compliance, safe chemical handling, and housekeeping in all sanitation areas.

Participate in internal/external audits (SQF audits, FDA inspections, organic certification audits). Support corrective and preventive actions stemming from audit findings.

Provide shift‑handover to incoming Sanitation Lead or Supervisor, ensure continuity of sanitation coverage.

Support continuous improvement of sanitation processes and production readiness.

Job Qualifications Experience

Spanish and English are required.

2-5 years of experience in sanitation lead or supervisory role in food manufacturing environment. Experience with SQF and FDA regulated plant is strongly preferred.

Knowledge of food safety systems: SQF, HACCP, GMP, organic manufacturing practices.

Ability to read, interpret and maintain sanitation documentation and schedules.

Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills: able to train, coach and motivate sanitation crew.

Physical ability: standing for long periods, lifting up to (e.g.) 50‑75 lbs, working around chemicals, cold/hot production areas.

Ability to work flexible hours/shifts (including nights/early mornings) as required by production schedule.

Proficient in basic computer skills (e.g., MS Office – Word, Excel) and experience tracking sanitation metrics.

Preferred: SQF Practitioner certification, HACCP or PCQI certification, previous experience in organic manufacturing.

Experience on running CIP, COP procedures.

Working and Environmental Conditions Work performed in a wet, refrigerated manufacturing facility with temperatures below 40°F, with occasional tasks in dry warehouses (up to 85°F) or freezer environments (as low as -10°F).

Exposure to noisy environments exceeding 85 dBA.

Work areas may be tight; continuous PPE use (safety glasses, ear protection, steel‑toed shoes) is required.

Must be able to perform repetitive tasks efficiently and safely.

May require forklift certification and operation, including maintenance and inspections.

Physical Demands Stand and walk for entire shift.

Use of cleaning chemicals, sanitizers – must adhere to chemical safety protocols.

Might require overtime, weekend or early shift work to align with production schedule.

Navigate manufacturing environments including bending, kneeling, reaching overhead, stooping, squatting, twisting, climbing ladders/stairs, and working at heights.

Regular use of hands for grasping and controlling objects.

Exposure to moving machinery.

Must pass a fit‑for‑duty physical exam.

Compensation $20 - $23/HR DOE
