The Department of History and Political Science at Utah Valley University invites applications for a tenure‑track assistant professorship in U.S. History (1877 to the present) beginning in Fall 2026. The position is a nine‑month appointment with a required 4/4 teaching load. The successful candidate will teach lower‑division surveys in Modern U.S. History, an upper‑division course in Utah History, and courses in their areas of specialization. Preference will be given to candidates with a specialization in public or digital history. Candidates must have experience teaching in a college or university setting and demonstrate a commitment to engaged teaching, active scholarship, and service. Application deadline is November 30, 2025. The application must include a cover letter, CV, graduate transcript, writing sample, and teaching statement. Ph.D. in History must be completed by the date of appointment. The search committee expects to conduct first‑round online interviews in January.

Summary of Responsibilities

Teach a 4‑4 course load (or service/administrative equivalency) of lower and upper division undergraduate classes, including surveys, areas of specialization, and department service courses.

Maintain and submit accurate current reports and records involving student accountability, attendance, performance, and follow‑up. Establish and maintain office hours. Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.

Maintain currency in fields of expertise, research, and pedagogy. Assist department chair, faculty, and staff in maintaining an effective program, including advisement and recruitment of students, curriculum development, and program changes. Serve on committees and attend meetings as assigned. Conduct self professionally.

Demonstrate teaching experience in an environment that features a student body with different abilities and educational backgrounds. Knowledge of and demonstrated use of engaged teaching techniques. Skilled in effective oral and written communication, including the ability to communicate with different audiences.
