Job Description
The Mortgage Loan Officer is responsible for the origination of term mortgage loans for sale on the secondary mortgage market. They conduct initial pre-qualification interviews and prepare complete loan application packages and necessary documentation, convey policies for extension of credit in accordance with bank and secondary investor guidelines, and meet scheduling and documentation requirements and production expectations as determined by the Senior Vice President of Residential Mortgage Lending. The Mortgage Loan Officer serves customers, prospective customers, builders, developers, and realtors promptly and professionally, provides general bank information, cross‑sells services, and helps other Mortgage Loan personnel as necessary.
Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years old
High school diploma or GED required
Active license number with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry or the ability to obtain such
Mortgage loan processing/lending experience preferred
Real estate background helpful
Knowledge of bank loan policies, products, procedures, processing, and underwriting guidelines preferred
Familiarity with title reports, insurance, and appraisals preferred
Strong interviewing skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Good analytical and financial skills
Able to operate related computer applications, calculator, and other basic business equipment
Able to accommodate and get along well with coworkers
Able to work in a fast‑paced environment with a large amount of stress
Responsibilities
Interview, take applications, and process preliminary documentation on loan requests, discussing loan alternatives, credit criteria, interest rates, and loan documentation in a manner that elicits positive responses from customers
Perform follow‑up work as necessary to achieve conditional approval within established time frames
Notify customer if loan is referred back to officer because of problem ratios or credit ratings
Advise customers of loan approval or denial and explain loan denials precisely and clearly to customers
Complete lending operations in accordance with established bank policies and legal requirements
Inform customers of bank loan policies and services
Counsel customers regarding money management and financial matters and customers whose loan requests were denied, explaining reasons and alternatives
Coordinate functions with related departments and branches and provide support as needed
Help other area personnel as required
Keep management informed of area activities and any significant problems or concerns
Attend and participate in meetings and committees as required
Stay informed regarding changes in lending standards, related legal requirements, and trends in local real estate and competitive market
Complete required reports and records accurately and promptly
Cross‑sell bank services by maintaining a general working knowledge of all bank products
Promote D.L. Evans Bank at all times
Serve as a representative for D.L. Evans Bank in the community
Ensure that customers' requests and questions are promptly resolved
Maintain the professional reputation of D.L. Evans Bank
Keep work area and equipment clean, secure, and well maintained
Complete special projects as assigned
