Job Description JOB SUMMARY:

The Mortgage Loan Originator ("MLO") originates residential mortgage loans in the secondary market, thereby providing a broader array of mortgage loan products to our customers and enhancing the bank's fee-based income. The MLO is to develop referral relationships with realtors, builders, bankers, and other strategic partners for the purpose of generating residential mortgages through ongoing sales efforts, including Bank's Affordable Housing Loan Program.

Responsibilities

Meet with customers or prospective customers to identify needs and sell mortgage loan programs.

Interview applicants and collect required information for loan applications such as credit history, income, assets, investments, debt, and other documentation about the property.

Analyze customer information, identify needs, and recommend appropriate bank product offerings.

Advise customers on the risks and benefits of mortgage options to achieve the most appropriate loan based on their financial situation.

Communicate with or interview applicants or creditors to resolve questions regarding application information.

Remain the primary contact with the borrower during the application to closing process to obtain necessary documentation.

Analyze potential loan markets to develop prospects for loans.

Develop new business from multiple sources while retaining existing business.

Maintain working relationships with realtors, builders, and other strategic referral partners.

Know underwriting guidelines and scenarios for conventions, FHA/VA, and subprime mortgages and stay up-to-date on market conditions.

Cross-sell other bank products to clients as opportunities arise.

Maintain thorough knowledge of pricing and underwriting requirements, and disclose and discuss parameters of various programs including pricing, interest rates, and fees.

Submit complete loan packages for processing and final underwriting approval.

Pre-qualify clients at the initial meeting.

Coordinate efforts to increase loan production.

Promote/discuss consumer lending products with customers within compliance of the Safe Act guidelines and United procedures, where required by local market.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or three (3) years of directly related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products.

Working knowledge of underwriting guidelines and related regulations.

Strong sales environment demeanor.

Account‑management and customer‑service focus.

Strong attention to detail and ability to multi‑task.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Spanish or another language is a plus.

Ability to identify potential banking opportunities and work comfortably with prospective clients.

Demonstrated strong public speaking ability.

Knowledgeable in automated underwriting engines and capable of reviewing findings with a clear understanding of approval terms.

Ability to acquire strong product knowledge.

Frequent off‑site travel for client meetings or business development as needed.

Flexible work hours to meet client and business development requirements.

Possession of an NMLS license or ability to obtain one within a reasonable timeframe.

Completion of ongoing NMLS training and compliance with SAFE Act as required.
