JR000127Job Description Summary:The Laboratory Technician is responsible for conducting chemical, bacteriological and physical testing of raw, partially treated and treated water/wastewater and by-products to determine efficiency of plant processes and to ensure that plant effluent meets regulatory requirements in order to protect the public health and the environment . This position also safely conducts chemical, bacteriological and physical testing of drinking water to ensure that it meets the Safe Drinking Water Standards of Local, State and Federal authorities.Job Description:Salary Range: $44,941.00-$121,736.00/Annually**BUDGETED SALARY: $55,000.00 - $58,000.00/Annually**Essential Duties:* Prepares chemical and bacteriological media, reagents and test solutions* Receives and responds to Harford County drinking water concerns* Cleans, maintains and assembles instruments/equipment, including preparing them for use* Conducts laboratory analyses on samples of treatment plant influent, partially treated water and/or wastewater, sludge, effluent and other by-products* Records and interprets test results, assembles data and prepares reports* Assists in managing laboratory inventory and supplies* Assists in maintaining the laboratory quality assurance program to ensure compliance with state drinking water certification program, NPDES, SWDA, and any other Federal, State, and local regulations* Supports the implementation of the laboratory safety program, including proper use of Personal Protective Equipment and maintenance of the Safety Data Sheets* Collects samples of drinking water, treatment plant influent, partially treated water and wastewater, sludge, effluent and other by-products* Performs special projects assigned by the Superintendent of LaboratoriesYears of Experience:

Possession of an A.A. Degree with a major in chemistry, laboratory technology, sanitary technology or in a closely related field.
Additional experience as described above may be substituted for the college degree at the rate of one (1) year of experience for each year of college.Certifications, Licensures, and Examinations:
Must obtain a valid Maryland Drinking Water Sampler License within six (6) months of acquiring position.The completion of all necessary requirements assigned by the Laboratory Superintendent to support the MDE laboratory drinking water certification.Possession of a valid Class "C" non-commercial driver's license with no more than three (3) points. Be advised this position requires a valid driver's license. Your application will not be considered if you fail to include the full driver's license number on the electronic application.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:* Ability to operate and perform general maintenance of relevant equipment* Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing* Basic math, such as adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing* Ability to interpret test results and formulate reports* Knowledge of theories, principles and practices of wastewater and water treatment* Knowledge of basic laboratory equipment and nomenclature* Gain proficiency by completing an Initial Demonstration of Capability within 6 months for various microbiological and chemistry testing procedures including, pH, BOD, Total Coliform & E coli, Total & Ortho Phosphorus, Total & Suspended Solids, and at least one Nitrogen parameterSAFETY:
