Summary
The Accounting Manager plays a crucial role in overseeing and managing the company's accounting functions. This position involves ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with accounting standards, and effective financial operations.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and review financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Lead month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate results within 5 business days of month end.
- Prepare supporting schedules and reconciliations for internal and external reporting.
- General Ledger & Compliance Management:
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.
- Ensure compliance with accounting principles (U.S. GAAP) and company policies.
- Coordinate with Controller, external financial auditors and tax advisors, as needed.
- Cost Accounting & Inventory Management:
- Partner with Cost Accountant, Operations and Supply Chain teams to analyze inventory movements, variances, and absorption.
- Maintain and review standard costs, labor, and freight allocations.
- Support cycle counts and physical inventory processes.
- Support budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Analyze results against budget and provide insights into variances and operational drivers.
- Internal Controls & Process Improvements:
- Establish and maintain strong internal controls over accounting and reporting processes.
- Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities.
- Tax Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all tax regulations and filings.
- Coordinate with tax professionals as needed.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to accounting staff.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Sales, and HR teams to support business objectives.

- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field (CPA certification is preferred but not required).
Experience:
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory roles.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles (U.S. GAAP), financial reporting, and compliance.
- Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems (e.g., SAP Business by Design and QuickBooks).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, in a mid-market, private-equity backed environment, a plus.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively in a dynamic environment.
The office is clean, orderly, properly lighted and ventilated. Noise levels are considered low to moderate. Field conditions vary.
Exposed to various raw materials, including allergens (i.e. milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nut, peanuts, wheat, soy).
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may regularly require talking, hearing and grasping items. This position is active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day.
Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, strong fumes, loud noises, and occasionally extreme temperatures.
The employee must frequently grasp, lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 33 lbs.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Additional Information
The Salary Range for this position at Lief Labs is $126k - $140k/annually (USD). Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to market demands, experience, training, skills, and education.
