Position Overview
Provides strategic team leadership for Burlington’s store planning and design program. The program includes development of New Store Formats; evolution of existing Prototypes; reinvention of store environments, décor, graphics, and architectural exteriors. Planning & Design will be rolled out to 125+ New Stores per year and 25+ Right Sizes per year. Leads the extensive daily operations and establishes required standards for designs, plans, and specifications to ensure consistent execution of projects. Provides functional and technical expertise for cross-department collaboration and in support of numerous company initiatives.
A Day In The Life
Develop a Vision and Long-Range Plan in conjunction with SVP. Maintain a strategic approach including: development and implementation of innovative processes to improve consistency, effectiveness & efficiencies. Establish and manage KPIs to drive business success and achieve LRP. Serve as functional expert in support of numerous company initiatives aimed at driving sales growth thru “brand right” and “cost-effective” store environment solutions.
Directs internal Store Designers, Graphics Designers, Store Planners, and Architects to achieve department goals and the successful completion of retail and non-retail projects. Department goals include: Driving Top Line Sales Leveraging Capital & Expense Delivering Best in Class “Speed To Market” Development of Best in Class Store Development Team
Directs external Design Consultants, Architectural & Engineering Consultants, and Global Vendor Partners to achieve department goals and the successful completion of retail and non-retail programs.
Lead teams in the development of
high quality
and
cost effective
design solutions thru all phases of the development process. Has direct ownership of Design phase, provides guidance during Planning and Construction phases.
Provide leadership, coordination, and communication with all partners involved in the store development process, including Real Estate, Legal, Facilities, Property Administration, Merchants, Planning & Allocation, Merchandise Presentation, Marketing, Store Operations, IT, LP, Finance, Construction, Store Planning, Architects, Design Consultants, Landlords, General Contractors, etc.
Lead, train, and guide team members to ensure alignment with strategic goals, foster professional development, and build a high-performing, collaborative culture. This includes setting clear expectations, providing ongoing coaching and feedback, identifying skill gaps and development opportunities, and cultivating a sense of ownership and accountability across the team. Actively mentor direct reports and emerging leaders to strengthen succession planning and ensure continuity of leadership within the Store Planning & Design organization.
You’ll Come With Education:
Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in related field is preferred
Experience:
5+ years in senior leadership role within the retail industry
10+ years of experience in Store Design role with major retail brand or design firm
Skills and Abilities:
Outstanding Innovation and Collaboration skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong leadership profile and excellent negotiation skills
Strong role model that embraces and demonstrates support for company vision & values
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build trust with business partners
