Director of Information Technology – Dean of Students Provide strategic leadership for technology in the Office of the Dean of Students (DOS). Manage daily departmental IT operations and supervise the broader IT strategy covering applications/systems, security, vendor partnerships, data analytics, elections technology, web platforms, and staff support. Ensure technology resources align with departmental goals, divisional standards, and university policies.

Purpose Lead the strategic and technical IT objectives for DOS. Coordinate with DOS leadership on strategic initiatives, ensure compliance with university requirements, and supervise multiple IT projects to meet timelines and budgets. Provide resilient, secure, and documented IT operations while addressing legacy technical debt and modernizing student-facing systems.

Responsibilities

Lead the strategic and technical IT objectives for DOS, coordinating with leadership on strategic initiatives and ensuring compliance.

Manage data analytics and reporting solutions that support assessment, accreditation, and student success, partnering with divisional assessment teams.

Recruit, hire, and supervise DOS IT staff, including software and web developers, and oversee agreements with campus partners for desktop and application support.

Serve as Lead Technical Service Contact for DOS, custodian for IT applications, security, and systems.

Oversee DOS website and Student Government elections platform, ensuring compliance with accessibility standards.

Serve as a member of the Student Affairs IT Leadership Committee, contributing to long‑term IT strategy for all VPSA, focusing on stabilizing systems, reducing technical debt, and modernizing student-facing solutions.

Required Qualifications

Associate’s degree.

Five years of progressive IT experience.

Three years in a management or leadership role directly leading IT professionals.

Experience in a higher education setting.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or higher.

Ten or more years of progressive IT experience.

Five or more years in a management or leadership role directly leading IT professionals.

Knowledge of UT Austin and UT System policies, systems, and technology.

Knowledge of Anthology, Maxient, PantrySoft, CampusESP, Monday.com, Real Response, GivePulse.

Knowledge of container platforms such as Docker or Kubernetes.

Experience with Python and scripting for automation, data processing, and integration.

Familiarity with web development frameworks and APIs.

Strong understanding of database design, management, and security best practices.

Working Conditions

Continuous adherence to the department’s Vision, Mission, Values, and standards.

Regular and punctual attendance required; additional hours may be needed.

Essential worker designation: may work in person or remotely during off‑hours, holidays, or emergencies.

Compliance with all UT and UT System policies and regulations.

Security sensitive; exempt classified.

Physical demands include standard office conditions with repetitive keyboard use and occasional manual lifting.

Must manage multiple tasks, maintain confidentiality, and lead in a complex, fast‑paced environment.

Salary Range $100,000+
