General Manager & Market Growth Leader – Select and Middle Markets (Northern California) – Cigna Healthcare Oakland, CA • $225,000 – $250,000 • 4 days ago

Overview Reporting to the Vice President, Regional Growth Leader, this role is a key member of the sales leadership team responsible for driving profitable, market‑focused growth in the Northern California region (U3000 Segment). The General Manager will oversee new and existing business sales teams, develop and execute local market growth strategies, and partner with cross‑functional leaders to achieve top‑line revenue, membership growth, account retention, and rate execution.

Key focus areas include:

Direct top‑ and bottom‑line growth and portfolio management within the 25‑3000 buyer group.

Building the face of Cigna for clients and producers in the local market.

Collaborating with stakeholders across underwriting, pricing, marketing, product, service, and clinical teams.

Engaging community partners, legislators, employer groups, hospitals, physicians, affinity partners, brokers, producers, and consulting firms.

Responsibilities

Provide oversight of day‑to‑day sales distribution and implement effective management processes across new and existing business channels.

Partner with the Regional Growth Leader to develop and execute local market growth strategy and business plan, aligning with the Enterprise and U3000 Segment goals.

Demonstrate visible leadership and achieve metrics for top‑line and bottom‑line growth.

Represent Cigna in the community, maintaining strong client and broker relationships and handling media or public relations inquiries.

Collaborate across the Enterprise to achieve corporate, financial, and market objectives while delivering high‑quality products and customer service.

Ensure market‑level processes and best practices drive accountability and results across all teams.

Work with Underwriting & Market leadership to balance risk management with profitability.

Hire, develop, and maintain a diverse, high‑performing sales culture aligned with Cigna’s client base and community.

Required Skills

Bachelor’s degree in business, health care, or related field (Master’s or MBA preferred).

8+ years in strategic sales leadership in health plan, broker, or consulting environments; 7+ years managing sales teams at buyer group or market level.

Broad expertise in sales distribution, health care, customer relationships, and external broker management.

Strong influence and collaboration across matrix partners.

Demonstrated leadership in achieving vision, purpose, and outcomes.

Adaptable and transformational mindset with a track record of high‑quality, profitable results.

Excellent facilitation, presentation, and coaching skills.

Ability to travel 50%+ regionally and nationally as required.

Internet connection (10 Mbps download/5 Mbps upload) if working from home.
