What You’ll Do Are you a data‑driven problem solver with a passion for transforming complex financial information into clear, actionable insights? The Senior Financial Data Analyst plays a key role in supporting the Firm’s financial strategy by applying data analysis and modeling expertise to deliver meaningful reporting and performance insights. In this role, you’ll collaborate directly with senior management, partners, and functional team leads to design and maintain data models, enhance the Firm’s financial reporting capabilities, and strengthen data‑driven decision‑making across the organization. You’ll investigate data flows, develop new modules for the Finance data mart, and help business users translate raw data into high‑impact, strategic insights.
Deliver strategic financial insights
– Support key Firm initiatives with sophisticated financial modeling, data mining, and analysis to meet specialized reporting needs for leadership and clients.
Build and optimize data models
– Architect and maintain fact‑and‑dimension‑based data structures that simplify access to critical financial information for non‑technical users.
Develop dynamic reporting tools
– Design and enhance Power BI models and measures using Data Analysis Expressions (DAX) to streamline reporting and analysis.
Leverage SQL expertise
– Create complex queries using Transact‑SQL and related tools to ensure accurate, efficient data extraction and reporting.
Interpret and visualize trends
– Identify and analyze key performance patterns within large data sets to inform Firm strategy and operations.
Drive data transformation
– Explore transactional data, apply data mining techniques, and transform results into accessible reports and dashboards.
Support leadership reporting
– Prepare and deliver reports for committees, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), and other senior management stakeholders.
Innovate and improve processes
– Develop new analytical approaches to increase efficiency, support evolving business initiatives, and enhance the Firm’s data environment.
Collaborate and adapt
– Partner with colleagues across departments to contribute to process improvements and remain current with emerging Power BI trends and best practices.
What You’ll Bring
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience); Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Master of Business Administration (MBA) preferred with at least 6 years of progressive experience in accounting and/or finance, ideally within a professional services or law firm environment.
Technical expertise
– Advanced SQL querying skills and proven experience with Power BI tabular modeling. Strong understanding of relational database concepts and data architecture.
Analytical mindset
– Exceptional ability to collect, organize, analyze, and interpret data with precision, while maintaining awareness of broader business objectives.
Communication and collaboration
– Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex data into clear insights for all levels of the Firm.
Professional presence
– Highly organized, proactive, and results‑oriented, with strong attention to detail and a commitment to excellence and customer service.
Technology proficiency
– Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, with solid experience in database and data visualization tools.

Compensation The base salary range below represents the low and high end of the salary range for this position in Chicago. This range may differ based on your geographic location and cost of living considerations. At Kirkland & Ellis, we consider compensation more than just a base salary. Compensation Range Chicago: $120,000 - $135,000
