Clinical Pharmacy Specialist - Cardiology

Overview The Pharmacy Department is recruiting for a Clinical Specialist to support primary practice area of cardiology that includes heart failure, general cardiology, and cardiac transplant services. The Clinical Specialist will participate in multidisciplinary patient care rounds, clinically review and complete pharmacy consults, guideline/policy development, performance improvement projects, and pharmacy resident/student precepting. The position offers advancement through a clinical ladder program.
Responsibilities
Practice in accordance with the state and federal laws, rules, and regulations.
Maintain certification and credentials in accordance with the Board of Registration and adhere to institutional policies.
Review and verify medication orders with patient-specific parameters and clarify orders as needed.
Document and communicate pertinent information with the healthcare team to ensure continuity of care.
Provide drug information to physicians, nurses and other health care professionals.
Check and verify sterile and non-sterile medications.
Supervise the activities of students, technicians, and residents within pharmacist area of practice.
Promote a culture of patient safety by submitting medication-related events and near misses.
Complete daily pharmacy surveillance tool monitoring and other patient care initiatives and reports.
Work collaboratively with all pharmacy staff, upholding a culture of respect and teamwork.
Precept pharmacy students, resident rotations, and resident‑led quality improvement projects; may serve as Residency Program Coordinator or Director.
Participate in department initiatives: formulary stewardship, presenting medication requests at Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee, creating and maintaining policies and procedures, assessing workflows, and developing departmental tools.
Support a core area of practice through interdisciplinary education, ongoing specialty training, and as a resource for staff.
Update clinical guidelines and present hospital-wide educational initiatives.
Serve on hospital interdisciplinary committees or workgroups to improve process and quality outcomes.
Support IRB‑approved research activities, medication use evaluations, or cost‑savings initiatives.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
PGY‑1 + 1‑3 years or PYG‑2 or 3‑5 years of experience in a clinical specialty area.
Preferred Qualifications
BPS.
Pay Range $61.53 - $78.04 per hour. Base hourly wage expected; actual compensation may exceed base hourly rate depending on factors such as seniority, education, training, and shift differentials.
