This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, developing Blue Moon landers and related products. The position focuses on building sustainable infrastructure for transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface, supporting NASA and national partners within the Human Landing System (HLS) Sustaining Lunar Development (SLD) program, and extending human presence permanently beyond Earth.
Responsibilities
Design, analysis, development, and testing of mechanisms hardware, including metallic parts, gears, motors, bearings, linkages, and integrated assemblies.
Create 3D models, detail part drawings, assemblies, installations, and interface control documents.
Provide manufacturing and production support for hardware and technical guidance for integration.
Support configuration development and trade studies; apply practical approaches to fabrication and cost impacts.
Create test plans and specifications; conduct subsystem test planning, execution, data reduction, and analysis.
Work with vertically integrated teams for materials, manufacturing processes, and world‑class aerospace hardware production.
Participate in the development and purchase of new equipment and tooling.
Maintain and report on activity schedule, budget, and technical status.
Qualifications
Minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering.
5+ years of experience with automotive, aircraft, spacecraft, or launch vehicle mechanisms and/or structures.
Experience with recent aircraft or launch vehicle projects in areas such as structural design of metallic components, DC motor selection, geartrain/linkage/bearing sizing, and material selection.
Strong mechanical design and integration skills using 3D CAD software; familiarity with GD&T (ASME Y14.5).
Experience with Creo Pro/Engineer or similar CAD tools.
Desired
Rapid application of structural mechanics principles and finite element analysis.
Understanding of material and design considerations in cryogenic environments.
Full product lifecycle experience from design to test to production.
Experience with Creo Wildfire 5+, Windchill 10, and analysis codes such as Nastran, ANSYS, OptiStruct, Abaqus, HyperMesh, or HyperSizer.
Compensation Range For CO applicants: $107,707.00–$150,789.45; WA applicants: $117,498.00–$164,497.20.
