Tax Manager The Tax Manager is an individual contributor role focused on Calix’s tax accounting and forecasting processes and assisting with all aspects of the global tax function, including tax compliance, tax audits, and tax planning. The candidate must have strong experience with ASC 740 and hands‑on experience in preparing, reviewing, and managing federal, state, and foreign corporate tax returns and income tax provision and reporting disclosures for Forms 10‑Q and 10‑K. The role will also lead the department’s efforts to apply technology solutions to drive efficiency and strategic value.

Responsibilities

Proactively manage all aspects of the quarterly and annual financial reporting for income taxes on a global basis.

Ensure tax accounting processes, documentation, and related systems are compliant with internal control (SOX) requirements.

Prepare GAAP and non‑GAAP effective tax rate and cash tax forecasts providing insights critical to company decision making.

Analyze and model the impact of special tax projects and tax planning initiatives, business changes, and proposed and enacted tax law.

Collaborate with various departments (e.g. Accounting, FP&A, Legal, Engineering, Supply Chain, Sales Ops) to ensure proper tax implications are considered for company transactions and initiatives.

Work with external service providers overseeing U.S. federal, state, and local income tax compliance including estimated and corporate tax calculations and filings.

Assist with development, execution, and monitoring of transfer pricing strategies and preparing or reviewing transfer pricing documentation.

Assist with and manage foreign income tax filings with external service providers.

Identify opportunities for process improvement and digital transformation, driving initiatives to automate routine tasks and leverage advanced analytics for tax planning and risk management.

Stay current with emerging trends in tax technology, AI, and automation, and proactively recommend innovative solutions to support the company’s strategic goals.

Train and mentor tax team members on new technologies, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and digital literacy within the tax function.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in accounting; CPA and/or Masters in Taxation preferred.

5+ years of relevant experience in public accounting, multinational corporation, or a mix of both.

Core competency in income tax accounting (ASC 740) and exposure to complex tax accounting topics including share-based compensation, investments in foreign subsidiaries and joint ventures, uncertain tax positions, valuation allowance analysis, etc.

Working knowledge of US international tax concepts including transfer pricing, source of income, foreign tax credits, GILTI, FDII, BEAT, etc.

Working knowledge of foreign income and indirect tax concepts.

Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Excel.

Experience with ERP systems (such as Oracle Cloud).

Experience with tax technology applications (such as OneSource) and process automation tools (such as Alteryx) preferred.

Exposure to AI-powered tax research, compliance, or reporting tools.

Strong interest in staying current with emerging tax technology trends and fostering a culture of innovation within the tax team.

Location and Compensation Remote-based position located in the United States or Canada. Compensation varies based on geographic location. Salary ranges:

San Francisco Bay Area: $115,000 – $172,500 USD annual

Other U.S. metropolitan areas: $100,000 – $150,000 USD annual

Other U.S. locations: $90,000 – $135,000 USD annual

Individual pay is determined based on location of residence and multiple factors, including job‑related knowledge, skills and experience. As part of the total compensation package, this role may be eligible for a bonus.
