Heavy Equipment Operator

Operate various types of power construction equipment, such as excavators, bulldozers, backhoes, compactors, articulated dump trucks, or front-end loaders to excavate, move, and grade earth, primarily in projects associated with environmental contamination. Operate equipment utilizing both CAT and other controls. Responsibilities also include maintaining and performing minor repairs on the equipment.

Learn and follow safety regulations. Take actions to avoid potential hazards and obstructions, such as utility lines, other equipment, and workers. Adjust hand wheels and depress pedals to control attachments, such as blades, buckets, scrapers, and swing booms. Start engines, move throttles, switches, and levers, and depress pedals to operate machines such as bulldozers, trench excavators, wheel loaders, and backhoes. Locate underground services, such as pipes and wires, prior to starting work. Monitor operations to ensure health and safety standards are met. Align machines, cutter heads, or depth gauge makers with reference stakes and guidelines. Load and move dirt, rocks, equipment, and materials using trucks, shovels, graders, or related equipment. Drive and maneuver equipment equipped with blades to remove topsoil, vegetation, and rocks, and to distribute and level earth or terrain. Coordinate machine actions with other activities, positioning or moving loads in response to hand or audio signals from crew members.

High school diploma or general education degree (GED). 3+ years of experience working as an equipment operator. Trained and certified to operate the assigned equipment with at least 4 years of equipment-specific experience. Experience following plans and stakes for cut and fill. Ability to sit/operate heavy equipment for up to 100% of the shift. Willingness and ability to travel to project sites. Experience with heavy equipment such as excavators, skid steers, loaders, and front-end loaders. REAL CA ID or TWIC preferred for certain job requirements. Experience with water trucks and bulldozers is advantageous.

Work involves radioactive and other environmental job sites, primarily in Northern California, with significant travel required. The role may require obtaining a dosimeter for radiological safety and possessing a REAL ID, TWIC, or passport for site access. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Livermore, California. The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr.
