Hardware Developer 4 (Sustaining Engineer) Location: Santa Clara, CA
Salary: $97,500 – $199,500 per year (US). Bonus and equity may be eligible.
Job Overview: Oracle’s West Coast Hardware Development organization is seeking an experienced Senior Hardware Sustaining Engineer to support Oracle’s cloud, AI, and database platforms by diagnosing, resolving, and preventing hardware issues in large‑scale production and deployed systems.
Responsibilities Lead root cause analysis and resolution of hardware issues across manufacturing and large‑scale cloud environments.
Develop and implement corrective and preventive actions to address field and production hardware failures.
Manage component lifecycle, including qualification, change management, and end‑of‑life planning.
Validate new and second‑source component qualifications to support resilient supply chains.
Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, support teams, and component vendors on debugging activities for failure debugging.
Analyze failure trends, generate detailed technical reports, and present findings to cross‑functional teams and management.
Support design enhancements and provide feedback to improve hardware reliability and serviceability.
Assist in maintaining and upgrading specialized lab equipment and high‑end development platforms.
Document best practices and lessons learned to drive continuous improvement.
Skills Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
10+ years of relevant experience in hardware sustaining, validation, or development.
Experience with cloud server hardware, CPU/GPU computer architecture and common computer protocols such as PCIe, I2C, SPI, UART, JTAG, and NVMe.
Proven track record in root cause analysis, corrective action implementation, and field failure reduction.
Expert knowledge of measurement techniques and use of lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, multi‑meters, and signal analyzers.
Experience with component/second source qualifications.
Broad knowledge of Linux tools and common scripting languages.
Strong analytical, diagnostic, and problem‑solving skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment.
