Job Summary:

The University of Kentucky College of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine seeks a dynamic and visionary Nephrology Transplant Medical Director with a distinguished record in academic medicine, particularly in transplant medicine and care. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in guiding a busy transplant program, advancing clinical excellence, and fostering academic growth. Reporting directly to the Division Chief, the Nephrology Transplant Medical Director will collaborate closely with other leaders across UK HealthCare and the College of Medicine.

Responsibilities The ideal candidate will exhibit emotional intelligence, a commitment to delivering exceptional patient care, and a passion for training future leaders in nephrology and transplant medicine. The selected individual will be a recognized academic leader with a proven track record of excellence in clinical care, research, clinical education, and mentorship. The Transplant Nephrologist will be integral in implementing the organization’s strategic initiatives, achieving excellence in quality metrics, and contributing to the overall growth and success of the transplant program. This role includes responsibility for planning and recruitment to meet departmental goals. Specific Responsibilities will include:

Improving Access to Transplantation

Optimizing Protocols for Pre-transplant Evaluation, Listing, Waitlist Management and Live Donor Evaluation

Increasing Organ Utilization

Perfecting Quality Metrics and Methods of Posttransplant Surveillance

Leadership in Strategic Planning and Growth

Assessment of Resource and Staffing Needs

Liaison and Advisor to Transplant-Affiliated Organizations

Strong leadership abilities as a compassionate listener, strategic decision-maker, and an effective collaborator are essential. The candidate should demonstrate integrity, foster trust among colleagues, and possess excellent communication skills. Prior administrative experience in an academic medical center setting is preferred.
