This position, in collaboration with a physician, develops an anesthesia care plan, provides IV sedation and/or monitored anesthesia care, and administers general, regional or local anesthesia for a variety of surgical, obstetrical, diagnostic or therapeutic procedures. The role includes monitoring patients, performing CPR and life support measures during emergencies, managing patients’ physiological condition during anesthesia, and assisting with other departmental duties as requested by the Manager of Anesthesiology.
Responsibilities
Perform pre‑anesthetic evaluation and preparation. (25%)
Prepare the OR suite for all types of anesthesia. (25%)
Administer, manage, and monitor anesthesia care during induction, maintenance, and emergence. (25%)
Provide post‑anesthesia care and evaluation. (25%)
Takes appropriate safety precautions to ensure safe administration of anesthesia care.
Identifies opportunities for improving quality, including patient outcomes and operational efficiency within the Department.
Provides clinical support to other departments within the Medical Center.
Assists with other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
ACLS: Advanced Cardiac Life Support
BLS: Basic Life Support
CRNA: Certified RN Anesthetist
RN: Registered Nurse
NBCRNA: National Board Certified RN Anesthesiologist
Professional equivalency experience as required (e.g., within 12 months of hire for ACLS, within 3 months for BLS).
Preferred: Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
Required Education Master’s degree in Nursing (or related field) with completion of an accredited nurse anesthesia program culminating in certification and licensure in Michigan.
Experience, Training and Skills
Written, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to perform basic and advanced anesthesia skills such as adult and pediatric venipuncture, arterial line insertion, medication calculation, sterile technique, airway maintenance, and administration and management of regional anesthetics.
Compliance with all Medical Center policies and practices as described in the employee handbook.
Competency in Microsoft Windows and willingness to participate in further learning opportunities.
Physical/Mental Requirements & Working Conditions
Exposure to stressful situations, public contact, trauma, grief, and death.
Ability to wear personal protective equipment (latex or designated substitute).
Ability to move freely throughout the facility with or without an assisted device.
Excellent vision and hearing, with or without assistive devices.
Frequent sitting, standing, walking, and postural changes (stooping, kneeling, crouching). May require lifting 11–20 lbs. occasionally and 10 lbs. frequently.
Physical demand level: Light.
