Summary
Performs advanced laboratory testing and analysis of water, wastewater, and biosolid samples to support process quality, environmental compliance, and plant performance. The role involves conducting chemical, physical, and microbiological tests following established quality standards and laboratory protocols. Work is both independent and collaborative within a laboratory team environment.
Key Responsibilities
Perform routine and complex laboratory analyses in accordance with certified procedures and environmental guidelines to ensure compliance with operational and permit standards.
Conduct tests such as BOD, solids, chlorine residuals, pH, dissolved oxygen, nutrients, and microbiological parameters using a range of lab instruments and analytical tools.
Support calibration and maintenance of lab equipment and process instrumentation; ensure precision and reliability in all measurements.
Prepare standards, reagents, and dilutions; document all work in laboratory records and data management systems.
Interpret and verify test results, maintain quality assurance data, and prepare reports, charts, or summaries as needed.
Assist with quality audits, training of other lab personnel, and improvements to laboratory procedures.
Maintain laboratory inventory and ensure safe handling, labeling, and disposal of chemicals and samples.
Participate in safety programs, test emergency equipment, and comply with all environmental, health, and safety policies.
Perform weekend or emergency coverage as required to maintain continuous laboratory operations.
Complete other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Competencies
Strong sense of accountability, accuracy, and teamwork.
Knowledge of chemical properties, laboratory testing methods, and wastewater or environmental processes.
Understanding of microorganisms and their interactions in environmental systems.
Ability to analyze data, interpret QC results, and troubleshoot testing discrepancies.
Skilled in the use, calibration, and maintenance of laboratory instruments and data systems (LIMS, MS Office).
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Capable of adapting to changing work priorities and maintaining compliance with quality standards.
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field preferred.
Minimum of two years of professional experience in a laboratory environment or equivalent education and experience combination.
