Advanced Ground Architecture (AGA) Sr. Software Manager

to support our Space Mission Systems Software Engineering team located in

Seal Beach, California ,

Herndon, Virginia , or

Mesa, Arizona . This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Defense Services (BDS) business organization.

Boeing is seeking an experienced Ground Software Manager to lead a team of approximately 25 contributors across multiple sites in developing next‑generation ground systems. In this role, you will support the Senior Program Manager and Integrated Product Team (IPT) Leader in advancing the IPT’s vision, working closely with software engineering, systems engineering, and program management to deliver high‑value capabilities. You will ensure compliance with Boeing Software Best Practices, Enterprise Software Engineering policies, and BDS requirements, while also supporting the Cost Account Manager and contributing to new proposals.

Position Responsibilities

Manage a team of software engineers and contribute to the design and development of state‑of‑the‑art ground systems software solutions for complex, real‑time, mission‑critical systems.

Oversee software design, development, integration, testing, and deployment using tools like GitLab, Jira, and CI/CD best practices.

Provide technical oversight throughout the software development lifecycle, ensuring compliance with quality, safety, and security standards.

Oversee software system‑level analyses to identify risks, issues, and opportunities, ensuring mitigation actions are integrated and deployed throughout the software lifecycle.

Monitor and review software integration and testing (SWIT) completion, verification processes, and resolution of software issues.

Ensure software peer and code reviews, design reviews, and technical exchanges are aligned with project plans and industry standards.

Perform hiring and staffing to meet project demands.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)

U.S. TS/SCI Security Clearance and program access prior to start.

10+ years of experience with software development for space systems and ground segments performing command, control, mission planning and data processing.

5+ years of experience as the technical leader of a software development or product deployment team.

3+ years of experience in DevOps practices such as continuous integration and continuous deployment, configuration management, security analysis and cloud computing, preferably using AWS Cloud.

Proficient in programming languages such as R, Python, Matlab, Java, C, or C++, with strong skills in object‑oriented design, development, and microservices architecture.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)

Experience using collaboration tools such as GitLab or Atlassian.

Familiar with Cloud Native Computing Foundation technologies, including Kubernetes, microservices, containers, and orchestration platforms.

Deep understanding of satellite ground software systems, aerospace systems, real‑time applications, and their specific requirements (e.g., high availability, low‑latency processing, fault tolerance).

Experience with database technologies (SQL/NoSQL), messaging systems (e.g., Kafka, ActiveMQ), and data streaming technologies (e.g., CCSDS).

Experience designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines in GitLab to automate testing, building, and deployment workflows.

Experience with product line software, effectively leveraging capabilities across diverse environments and user communities.

Project Management and Earned Value Management (EVM) experience.

Travel Approximately 10%

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. Summary Pay Range for Manager Level:

$154,700 - $224,250
